A couple of times I half expected Samuel L Jackson to scream out   KOONNNNNGGG! reminiscent of Kirk screaming for Khan in Star Trek. The movie was pretty much what we expected and it wasn't bad at all. They did a very good job on Kong and all the other outsize creatures on the island and there were a few of them, really nasty and one that was a gentle giant. They conveyed that Kong was actually the protector of the island and the humans that lived there, all painted up in native stripes and colours. Of course they had the female character but avoided the schmaltzy sentimental stuff that some of the other movies had. It was well done, that bit. Believable. The CGI was well done and the jungle locations were good, too. Early on there's a major "battle" with the helicopters and Kong that's pretty impressive, though of course it's all CGI but still good and I can't believe I'm saying that!

Speaking of CGI, we also want to see Ghost in the Shell which starts next week, and is based on Japanese Manga apparently. Scarlett Johanssen is in it and the trailer looked good if not an overload of cgi. There seems to be a decent story behind it. IMDB says "In the near future, Major (Scarlett Johansson) is the first of her kind: a human who is cyber-enhanced to be a perfect soldier devoted to stopping the world's most dangerous criminals. When terrorism reaches a new level that includes the ability to hack into people's minds and control them, Major is uniquely qualified to stop it. As she prepares to face a new enemy, Major discovers that she has been lied to, and her life was not saved. Instead, it was stolen."

We also saw the trailer for the new Blade Runner and I'm very excited about that. They also showed the trailer for the new Guardians of the Galaxy and we'll probably see that as well. I think both of those are summer movies.

Last summer, Cineplex had a deal that you could pre-buy a movie pass for a certain number of movies, good for the summer months to the end of September. We bought a pass for 8 movies, which is four trips to the movies for us and it worked out just right. We used up the last pair at the very end of September. the thing to do is see what's opening over the summer and decide how many we'd be likely to see and if they offer it again this year, it would definitely be worth doing. You can get it for regular, 3D or .... there's another level, not Imax but, Ultra 3D or something. We're not overly keen on 3D so we got the regular package last year. Even with taxes, it worked out to less than 10 dollars per ticket. Movies are now at least 10.50 plus tax and it's more for 3D etc. I think it works out to be about a 20% discount. They send you a series of codes and when you buy the tickets online you enter the codes on the payment screen.
I can't remember when they brought out the pass for purchase, early June maybe.
