There hasn't been a [ profile] fridayfiver Friday Five post all summer so i went back to their archives to grab one. Just because.

1. Describe the condition of your keyboard:
This one at work is grubby and the keys feel ... not sticky but they don't type smoothly nor quietly and it's annoying me. I did have a new one but it had keys where i wasn't expecting them and it threw me right off my game. I think someone's ordered me a new one and i think it might be cordless but we'll see. I also like the programmable buttons which that other new one didn't have.

2. Can you sing, or are you always out of key?
I'm somewhat on key. I have a pretty limited range and not a very strong singing voice.

3. What keys do you carry with you?
keys to the building, mailbox and apartment on one keychain, same plus my mom's house and car keys on the spare. I think there might be a desk drawer key as well.

4. What is the key to personal happiness?
You've got to be happy with who you are.

5. What gets you keyed up?
Being late or the possibility of it always makes me anxious.

The Busker festival is on now. I wasn't going to go but my favourite Busker band, Oka, is going to be there so i might nip down to the waterfront after work and see if i can catch them and maybe take a few photos as well while i'm there. I don't mind the Buskers but what i really hate is the begging spiel after the performance. Yes, i know they are only getting paid by contribution and it's fine to remind people of that. But they've started nagging, harassing and suggesting how much you could be donating in recent years and that really REALLY puts me off.

I also thought that i'd take photos because Flickr has an August 8/08 event and you can post photos taken today to the Flickr888 group.

1. Last party you went to?
Oh gosh, i can't really remember unless you count things like a Mary Kay makeup "party" or a Tupperware party. Both of those in the last couple of months. We've had family parties with a meal out and cake at the house after for birthdays, too. But a traditional party party? I can't remember.

2. Do you pee in the shower?
Noooo (and would anyone admit it if they did?)

3. Have you ever fired a gun?
Yes. My ex bought a shotgun and a rifle once and we went to an old quarry to shoot at tin cans and the like.

4. Where do you call home?
Halifax, Nova Scotia (Well, Dartmouth, really, but it's the Halifax Regional Municipality and more people have heard of Halifax than Dartmouth)

5. What's your favorite board game?
Ohh... i like Trivial Persuit and i like Monopoly. I've not really played a whole huge number of them. I used to love Trouble as a kid and Snakes and Ladders, too.

CBC in it's ever infinite wisdom is seriously considering dropping the theme tune to Hockey Night in Canada. This was written in the late 60s which surprised me because it's so ingrained into our consciousnesses here in Canada. You just don't think of hockey here without that tune running through your head. Apparently the contract with the company that owns the rights to it ended and CBC is saying they can't come to an agreement though the company is saying CBC isn't really pushing that hard either. I think public outcry is going to make the decision for CBC. I don't watch hockey anymore so it won't make any impact on my life whether it's there or whether they use Happy Birthday for the theme tune. Whatever. But I just can't imagine it without that tune and a lot of people are very passionate about it. You can sing that tune anywhere in the world and if there's a Canadian in the room, they'll know it. Getting rid is like changing the Coronation Street theme tune of nearly 48 years. Unthinkable really.

Mom's neighbourhood is having a yard sale tomorrow and she's got some stuff she's putting out. I brought a stack of cds and some dvds i didn't want but i offered them to the guys at work this morning first. That got rid of half of them right there. Someone might as well enjoy them. I wouldn't be asking for much for them at the yard sale so i don't mind giving them away here. I am also going to see if a few of my paintings will sell. Hard to know what to ask. I might just duck out of it altogether and see what someone would offer first and dicker from there. What do you think?

Friday five...

1. What's your weather?
Looks semi-sunny, it was cool this morning and it is probably going to rain later on.

2. Where are you on your way to?
After work, to mom's for the night. Neighbourhood yard sale tomorrow and it will be my nephew J's birthday tomorrow as well.

3. Are you good with directions?
Usually yes.

4. Do you know your neighbors?
I have a passing acquaintance with a few, exchanging friendly words and such. One or two over the years i've actually been friendly with. Living in an apartment building, you don't tend to see them other than in the elevator or waiting for busses and such. In a house, you're out in your yard, or out shoveling snow etc. You have more interaction.

5. What do you smell?
Couple of coconut cookies that I'm having with a mid morning cuppa.
tvordlj: (Friday Five)
Our weather seems to be shifting. What used to be cold and rainy April is now May. But the leaves are finally starting to come out on the trees so things are looking a little greener at least.
There's a Mexican tall ship in port and two or three bigass American navy ships. heeyuge suckers!
There's a java server down this morning. People are hollering because they can't look up phone numbers in the online internal phone book. Paperless society can only go so far, i guess.

Friday Five
1. Last laugh?
Had a good old chuckle this morning at an email sent late last night to me from my drunken mate Jo

2. What do you love?
Instead of saying the sentimental thing, i'm going with... i love a good thick fog. I love an October crisp sunny day. I love the ocean.

3. Gold or silver?
I wear mostly silver but gold is lovely too.

4. Who do you hold hands with?
[ profile] gramie_dee

5. Friday fill-in:
There's no time to ____.
There's no time to think of an answer.
tvordlj: (Friday Five)
1. Are you a good worker?
Not always. I can get distracted easily but then other times i get so stuck into the task that i don't move for hours and will voluntarily stay late after work to get something working or to a point where i can leave it.

2. What do you carry?
Purse (handbag) and usually, weekdays, a black canvas tote with lunch, book, brolly and assorted stuff.

3. Do you know your neighbors?
Not to the point of hanging-out friendship. There are familiar faces, people i catch the bus with all the time, or see around the building and we exchange friendly words.

4. Where do you like to go for a day trip?
From here, a day trip down the South Shore of the province is always enjoyable. Sometimes a day trip to the Annapolis Valley is nice too. There are always nice little tea rooms, funky little shops and beautiful scenery to be enjoyed in both of those places.

5. What is at your feet?
right now... the closest thing i suppose is the blue bucket for recycled paper that we each have under our desk. On the other side of my cube is the garbage can, a box of older files upon which sits my purse and canvas bag (see #2). There are shoes and sandals under the desk along with a few cables and electrical plugs.

1. Who do you adore?
I adore Josephine. She never fails to make me laugh when i'm down. She always has a plan. It may not work. It may be undoable, it may be farfetched. But she's always got a plan. She can get herself in to situations but can always get out of them. She's impulsive but usually not foolhardy. She's loyal and she's strong and she's just a joy to have as a friend.

2. Who adores you?
[ profile] gramie_dee (and, i should add, i do adore him)

3. What's in your pockets?
Don't have pockets today. My coat pocket has my keys and bus pass in it.

4. Who can you talk with for hours?
[ profile] gramie_dee online, Josephine, [ profile] kazza_.

5. What sounds great today?
I know what *would* sound great "Oh go home, take the day off"
tvordlj: (Friday Five)
1. Describe where you grew up:
The street where i grew up (age 4 - adulthood) was a small dead end street. There were single detached houses and a few buildings that had three apartments, flats i guess as they were. The city where i grew up and still live is on the Atlantic coast of Nova Scotia, with a lovely large harbour. The city is big enough to have lots to do but not really huge. I think the urban area is about 200,000 maybe a bit more. The whole county of Halifax is one political unit and is about 350,000.

2. Do you wear any jewelery?
Mainly rings, my engagement ring, a claddagh ring, a silver ring with a blue / black/white fimo stone, and a silver band with celtic design on it. I wear a watch and a leather bracelet. I often wear earrings and sometimes wear a necklace.

3. What do you have too much of?
Coronation Street stuff. (books, magazines, dvds)

4. Who is a fool?
I couldn't possibly comment.

5. What's your nickname?
Tvor :) (The Voice of Reason). Or you can call me Di.
tvordlj: (Friday Five)
1. When did you last get lost?
When in London, a couple of times I didn't get us off the bus at the right stop but i wasn't far off. Plus the bus was detoured one day and when we got off i really wasn't sure where we were exactly but managed to get us in the right direction. I've been in a car where the driver has got lost or turned around but we always found our way in the end. Normally i've a fairly good sense of direction on the whole, if i have a map.

2. Have you ever been flying?
In a plane? many many times. any other methods (balloon, parachuting, paragliding) no.

3. Who do you always listen to?
I always listened to my Dad. I don't always listen to my Mom (sorry!)

4. When does the day feel long?
That last hour of the workday seems to drag. Days also drag on if i'm not that busy. It's gone in spells at work where i may have a few days or a week without being too busy but that hasn't happened in awhile.

5. Friday fill-in:
Are we _____ ?
there yet?
tvordlj: (Friday Five)
1. When were you born?
On a Tuesday in a snowstorm in March.

2. What's your favorite photograph?
I have so many. One of my favourites is on my wall at work. It shows my nephew at age 5 holding his baby sister, age about 8 months. Their profiles are to the camera. He's smiling at her and she's in full laugh.

3. What's the longest distance you've run?
Run? What's that?

4. What is familiar?
Deja Vu ;)

5. What do you count on?
My family and fiance. I can also count on the bus pissing me off on a regular basis and can count on the weather being uncooperative just when you need it to be good!
tvordlj: (Default)
Kind of a blah one this week, i thought.

1. Favorite shoes?
My sneakers i guess. I'm not really a shoe person because they are hard to fit right or my feet hurt if i wear them for too long. I used to have a pair of red shoes, low narrow heel, very pointy toes that were brass tipped. Soft leather, i loved em.

2. What time does the sun set near you?
Currently i think it's dark by about 6. certainly by 6:30 but it's improving.

3. Do you like spending time in the sun?
I do but i'm also not a beach person or a sun bather. I like to go out when it's sunny, maybe sit in a park or wander around parts of downtown Halifax or the waterfront, but that's it.

4. Do you burn or tan?
Burn first. then tan.

5. Monopoly: yay! or no way!
As in the game? It's ok. I usually lose badly. Haven't played for years.

Another nostalgia year, from [ profile] kixie this time.
step back to 1990 )

Oh and... 29 sleeps until liftoff to London! W00t!

1. What are you set on?
Set on traveling as much as i can

2. What do you have to do right?
When i'm painting and my lines aren't straight or something doesn't look like i expect it to, i'm annoyed. But....I'm not a perfectionist and a painting is not a photo. I keep telling myself that.

3. Have any kids?

4. Are you patient?
*snork* well.... yes and no. I am with some things but with myself i'm usually not.

5. Friday fill-in:
I know if I put my mind to it ______.
i could procrastinate less.
tvordlj: (Friday Five)
1. What are you missing?
Sometimes i miss what's right under my nose. (Have i whined about how incomprehensible Java programming error messages are lately?)

2. How do you feel?
I'll do.

3. What have you let go?
I've let go of the diet obsession. Most of the time.

4. Who have you hurt?
Only myself. I try not to hurt others.

5. What do you deserve?
I deserve it all, baby!
tvordlj: (Friday Five)
What do you all have planned for the weekend? Mom and i are booking our trip tomorrow morning (yay! let the countdown begin!) I was tentatively going to a Corrie thing in Pictou/Stellarton but i think i'd rather not. It seems like it might snow a little and if it does, it will likely be heavier up that way so i think i'll just stay home and not take the chance.

Did i mention that [ profile] gramie_dee gave me a box set of the series Cold Feet for Christmas? I'm still working my way through that. We thought it had got lost in the mail so Amazon sent a replacement order and of course, the day after he ordered it, the original one arrived. He couldn't cancel it in time, they'd already sent out the replacement but had said that if the original one came, to keep the replacement with their compliments. So what to do with a second box set of Region 2 dvds? Well i found a hack code for mom's portable dvd player that seems to have worked so i'm giving the set to her. I think she might have to have the subtitles on though lol the accent is a bit strong with a couple of the characters, particularly "Jenny" and "Pete".

Now for the Friday Five...

1. What do you need?
Family, friends, love, and a win on the lottery wouldn't be too much to ask would it?

2. What won't you share?
I'll share most things if you ask nicely enough.

3. What do you hurry through?

4. Who is worth waiting for?
[ profile] gramie_dee. You gotta be willing to wait in a long distance relationship. They have to be worth it. And he is.

5. Friday fill-in:
I can't bear to ______.
wait in long lines.
tvordlj: (Friday Five)
Spectacular sunrise earlier, with vivid red, orange and fuscia on the horizon. I glanced up from my book and it took my breath away.

1. Where do you like to walk?
Anywhere near water - my neighbourhood lake or by the ocean if i can

2. What does your hair look like?
shite at the moment. Needs cutting and a colour and i have to wait until the 29th to get my stylist

3. What are you jealous of?
I'm not that jealous of anyone really, though maybe of people that get to travel places i haven't been yet. Even that isn't a jealousy as such.

4. What kind of promises do you make?
Only the kinds i can keep.

5. What makes you stare?
Day dreaming mostly.
tvordlj: (Iceman Cometh)
1. Tell us something you love:
I love to travel and take photos of my wanderings.

2. Tell us something you know to be true:
This too shall pass.

3. Tell us about someone new in your life:
I don't think there is anyone new in my life lately.

4. Who can you never please?
I don't think i have a contentious relationship with anyone.

5. Friday fill-in:
You know I ___.
You know i love you all!

It's snowing again. Big fat flakes. They were supposed to turn off our water this morning for repairs or something so i made sure i got up early enough to have a shower and fill the kettle. But the water has been on so far this morning. Figures.
tvordlj: (Friday Five)
1. If you could change your name, what would it be?
When i was a kid, i liked the name Stephanie. Though i don't think it suits me.

2. What is the worst name someone has called you?
I can't tell you that or you might start calling me that and then i'd have to kill you.

3. If you could meet someone famous, who would it be?
From now or anywhere in history? I think Elizabeth I would be my first choice. If i met someone famous, i'd want to be able to sit and chat to them, not just a hand shaking greeting. I've done that with a few actors off Corrie.

4. How do you like to travel home?
I take the bus. I don't like to really but i wouldn't like to be driving a car back and forth every day either. I'd *like* to travel home in a limo every day.

5. What kind of phone to you have?
At home, it's a cordless. Voice mail through the phone company. Mobile is a Samsung E250.

The big snow yesterday turned into nothing much. Got the last couple of bags of cookies from the two ladies that weren't in yesterday to add to my stash at home. I think the weather is going to be stable for the next little while at least so traveling around over Christmas will be safe.

I believe Mom and I at least are visiting my Aunt on Christmas Eve, though i am a bit surprised she'd feel up to company. It *is* family, though, so maybe that's what she needs. You can't really walk in and say Merry Christmas so i guess you have to go by their lead. The funeral for my uncle is tomorrow afternoon and it's in the same place as Dad's so that will be a bit strange. It's been nearly two years, though, so I don't think it will be too upsetting for me. The venue itself doesn't really hold vivid memories for me as we were in a side room and when i was speaking, i wasn't really concentrating on the room and the surroundings. The only clear memories i have of the place are the room where we had the wake, the office and the hall closet because i had to go back inside from the car to get Staci's coat.
tvordlj: (Friday Five)
1. What's the last movie you saw?
In the theatre? Hmm... Elizabeth: The Golden Age

2. Are you gentle?
Yes i think so.

3. Do you sleep with your bedroom door shut?
only if there's someone crashing on my couch otherwise it's wide open.

4. What's your middle name?

5. Friday fill-in:
I could learn to like ___.
I could learn to like Java programming.... if i live long enough ;)
tvordlj: (Friday Five)
I think the drugs are kicking in. I'm not coughing as much today which is a good thing. I'm not actually sleeping too badly though it takes a bit of effort to get to sleep as i start wheezing and coughing when i lay down, even propped up. Once i get to sleep, though, i generally stay asleep.

I have a meeting tonight and i really have to get to the post office to mail some parcels and get some stamps so maybe i'll do that tomorrow. I also want to get my Christmas tree and stuff out of the storage closet this weekend. I might even get it up and decorated.

And Friday five
1. Are you married?
Done that and divorced but am going to do it again....engagement ring is on the finger!

2. When do your claws come out?

4. Who is the last person you held?
[ profile] gramie_dee

5. Describe a time you've gone overboard:
