Mockingjay wasn't bad, better than I thought it would be at least. I expected this as the first of two parts to cover one thin book, to be aggravatingly padded but it wasn't too bad. They had Julianne Moore as the president of District 13, the one everyone had previously thought had been bombed out of existence. They've been living mainly underground biding their time and stirring dissention when they could. Now they are the ones directing the all out rebellion against The Capitol and can I just say Donald Sutherland is soooo good as the president of Pan Am! Creepy, powerful, all-knowing, masterfully manipulative and just the right tone to raise the hackles on your neck. Jennifer Lawrence is Jennifer Lawrence, the face of Katniss Everdeen and she's fine. I really like what they did with Peeta which matched the book and they really had him made up well. I think the actor must have lost weight for this movie as well unless it was cgi.
Anyway, If you've been following the movies and the books, you will enjoy this. But I wish they'd turn more lights on and the sound down. I do find these days that the sound systems in the movie theatres are really loud. All this high tech HD sound but it just seems a bit much sometimes. If they turned it down just a notch it would still be loud and you'd still get the experience with the music and crashes and explosions etc In fact, it's not even the music that's the bother, it's all the other fX. I'm getting old. No. I don't want it turned down a huge amount, just a tad. My mother listened to a lot of the movie with her fingers over her ears, it bothers her that much.
One more year until the finale. I have to see it out and knowing how it ends, I think they've cast the two people that are involved in the finale (without spoiling it) very well.
Oh, and Liam Helmsworth? Yum!
