Surcharge this
Apr. 18th, 2008 12:06 pmFoggy day today, i love the fog. It muffles noise, it makes everything look soft and fuzzy and you can smell the sea stronger.
In the news, in Baltimore, there was a set of identical triplets born plus a fraternal twin, that's three babies from one egg and one from another. Very very rare for it to happen that way.
My back is feeling a little better, still a bit uncomfortable but it's getting there.
Local columnist Peter Duffy had a piece the other day about paying 40% of his most recent plane ticket in taxes and fuel surcharges. He's flying to Manchester from Halifax. I emailed him and said that i flew that route often too and just got a "free" aeroplan ticket for
gramie_dee which cost me over $500 in taxes and surcharges. The farther you fly, the more the surcharge is, and Air Canada has him routed through Toronto on both coming and going flights which adds considerably to the distance and therefore, surcharge. Peter was fascinated and it looks like he's going to mention the cost of "free" flights in a follow up article. I called AC to see if we could get the heathrow to halifax flight instead of Toronto (no.) and the agent told me they've always charged taxes and stuff. I begged to differ. I am sure i've never paid extra on an aeroplan reward ticket and I'd remember if that business class free ticket cost me 500 dollars to go to the west coast. It must be something new or else i've been extremely lucky in the past. Even so, a regular ticket for the dates G. is coming here on the same "thru toronto" flights is 1300 dollars so I guess that's something.
A somewhat silly Friday Five this week.
1. What is heaven?
A stormy Sunday afternoon outside. Getting to stay inside at home with my sweetie.
2. What is older than you?
Dirt.
3. Where do you belong?
Right where i am
4. Who is no longer a stranger to you?
Everyone i know.
5. Friday fill-in:
I hear ____.
therefore i am.
