(no subject)

Long commute home on the bus today. At first all we heard was that one of the bridges was closed due to "circumstance". Now, if it were an accident, they'd have said so everyone assumed it was a jumper. This was confirmed by someone as the rumour mill flowed through the cellphone network. Well the rumour was confirmed, and very likely that is what happened. We saw a firetruck and then another one with "Rescue Unit" make it's way to the bridge while we were sitting in traffic too. This happens probably more often than we realize and only figure it out when the traffic is rerouted. Since all the traffic had to converge on the other bridge, it was a slow go, and as what often happens, we heard that the first bridge was open again but by that time, we're firmly entrenched in the metal ribbon so had to continue on the way. Someone else got on the bus later and said that they knew someone that worked at the bridge and said they had got the man off the edge and away. I hope it's true. It's sad when someone feels they have to jump off the bridge but you always think, well if they *really* wanted to, they'd be up and over before anyone could stop them or talk them out of it.

Mio Diablo!

Holy crap.
See what i'm listening to? Scandiavian band called Diablo Swing Orchestra but it's not like any old "orchestra". It's got swing. It's got operatics. But with a metal kick to it! Jazzy but with crunch and a bite! It's so different! They sent Graham the cd called "Sing Along Songs for the Damned and Delerious" which is their latest. Here's MySpace so you can check out some of their tunes and the fanciful history and origins of the band. It sometimes sounds like the cool Cuba swing sounds of the 30s and 40s, sometimes like a Russian folk song, and then it kicks in and out with the electrics. It's also more than a bit bizarre lol
