I'm quite impressed with myself today

Painting class was good. I got on a roll and didn't want to stop. Am making bricks. If i am to make them closer to the original photo they need to be lighter overall but ....

The photo is of a very old stone cottage in Derbyshire in Old Glossop. The cottage name is "Old Cross" because it's at the market cross of Old Glossop. The bricks and stone are sooty in some places and bleached in others. There is a big flowering bush in the middle which is the green bit currently. That will change. The left side hasn't been worked on yet and the right side only just begun. I'm quite pleased with the bricks though. It never seems to look as good to me until i see it in a photo !

Beautiful!

Is this a recently discovered talent or something you've always done?

I've never painted before other than paint by numbers. I generally do my "art" with a camera, such as it is. I was always ok with drawing but never really pursued it. Every year i like to try something new and i had in my mind before to take water colours. I heard that was a tricky thing to work with if you're new to it all so i went with oils.

I'm kind of looking forward to it myself, now i see the photo of it lol when you see it from 6 inches away all the time, you don't really "see" it. The instructor suggested i frame it with a double mat, white against the photo and the main mat one of the brown or red-brown colours in it.

I am VERYYY impressed..I wonder where my hidden talents are lol..well I can't really post them in a 'clean' live journal, smirk.

I had to blink before I realised it wasn't a photo... I think most of that's probably due to my having just woke up but nonetheless, it looks incredibly lifelike - the use of shadow/light is awesome.

What happened to the cat on the your last one? Did I miss the final result, while in a stress-filled haze last week?

Oooh. The thumbnails aren't working but the individual photos seem to be. This is the latest stage of kitty. Just needs the eyes and whiskers done in.
