My grandmother survived the Halifax Explosion. She was working in the Moir's chocolate factory, literally right at the harbour's edge in those days. The only thing that saved her teenage soul was a very thick oak door that fell on top of her. It protected her when the building collapsed around her. Her boss, who had been standing right beside her, was one of many that died in the explosion. Of course, then there was the terrible snowstorm that hit that night, of which many people froze to death.

Definitely a part of my family history........
