Happy First Face Day, Sweetie
One year ago on this date, i got off a train (an hour later than expected as it happened) and crossed a busy concourse. He didn't see me at first because someone had asked him for directions. The next thing i knew, our faces were inches apart and time stood still. gramie_dee and the week exceeded our expectations. We decided that July 12th would be our "first face day" anniversary and he actually sent me a card to mark it :) We're still looking forward. More and more i've heard of successful relationships that started on the internet. Yes, a few still fail in the end but that's not any different than those where people have met offline.

Distance is of course an obstacle and the personalities make a big difference. I'd have to say 80% of the couples i know that had a long distance relationship have worked out. (i.e. north america to the UK) pretty good odds.
