A visit from Dad

Oh dear God, there's a comic strip in the paper this morning, Pickles, that is SO Dad! We had a cat when we were younger and Dad and the cat had a continuous armed truce. It's a legendary feud well known in the family, from having to pay the vet bills ("Million dollar cat") to the cat wanting in and out the door all the time. In fact, the cat used to pick at the screen, or rub against the mailbox which thumped the lid up and down like he was knocking. Sometimes he rubbed against the house and hit the doorbell which leads me to today's comic strip.

and laugh i did, and found myself laughing and crying but mostly laughing. He's up there now *snorking* at the strip i just know it!

My friend has a cat that knocks. It's really annoying.

They have a cat flap but that cat doesn't really like using it. So it goes to the cat flap and bashes it open and shut repeatedly until someone opens the door.

If nobody is in it will condescend to use the cat flap!

Sounds like ours! Dad was sat in the living room and could see out the window. He saw the cat on the railing and started to tease the company that were visiting that he had the cat trained to knock when he wanted in. He knew the cat would at least bash the mailbox lid and he said sometimes the cat even rings the doorbell. They of course though he was talking bullshit and then... ding dong.... Dad just nodded to one of us, said let the cat in willya. We knew. Door was opened. Cat struts in with haughty expression. Visitors look astonished. Dad looks smug. The legend grows.

I remember it well. Though friends were skeptic (almost typed septic) lol! it happened too often for it to be mere coincidence! !

I'm sure the cat could hear the bell ringing inside and i'm sure he learned to associate it with someone coming to let him in but he mostly just flipped the mailbox lid as i recall.
