(posted this earlier by email, it's not shown up yet so sorry if it's duplicated, i'll sort it out if it is)

Dunno if this will go through, LJ seems to be in the midst of a hissy fit. Appropriate though, for the topic. I replied to a comment someone made this morning elsewhere because it triggered my superstition gene and lo and behold what's playing in the coffee shop? Stevie Wonder's Superstition so hey, i have the perfect topic for an LJ entry as soon as i get up to work. And LJ won't let me in. Bah... So am posting by email. I wanted to make a poll too and will do that later when i can.

Superstition. I'm superstitious about somethings. I wonder if most people do have little things they are superstitious or mildly paranoid about. You all know my history with trains, be it missing them or getting on the wrong one or stuff happenening that makes them or me late. This *always* seems to happen when there is someone at the other end waiting! So is it any wonder i get paranoid about making sure i'm on the right one? Busses too, at times, if it's going to be late or break down, chances are it's going to happen when i'm off to meet someone. Oh probably the law of averages will say this isn't so but it sure feels like it to me.

Then there are verbal things like saying What Can Go Wrong? or making plans to meet someone or do something in particular. If i write it on my calendar, quite often something happens and the event doesn't take place. But yet i need to write it down so i'll remember it. Doesn't usually happen for things like appointments, plane tickets, major events. AGain the law of averages probably proves me wrong but it doesn't stop me having a little moment of stress when i have to write an event down on the calendar.

I maintain that it's *not* being a pessimist or being negative, i'm generally pretty positive. I am not superstitious about things like black cats, or Friday the 13th or walking on the cracks in the sidewalk or going under ladders (unless there's someone working overhead that could drop something on me!). Killing a spider that makes it rain? Pah it rains anyway. Oh i do toss salt over my shoulder (both of them cause i can't remember which one is the traditional one for it) when i spill salt. It's almost automatic. Don't even think about it.

*Updated: I forgot about things happening in threes... do you agree? Third time lucky, deaths coming in threes, good or bad things happening in threes.

So with that in mind, as LJ seems to be fixed now...

Boy it's HOT outside! The summer so far has really been crap, cloudy, cool, muggy. The first really hot day, not a cloud in the sky and everyone will be bitching now! LOL! We're not used to it! It's lovely though, really. I sat out in the Parade Square at lunch and Sis and i are going to go to the waterfront after work to look at the ships. They are only letting people on board up to 5 o'clock though so i guess i'll definitely be coming back over the weekend as my boarding pass is good all weekend. Monday is a holiday too. Elsewhere in Canada it's generally just called the Summer civic holiday. Here it's "Natal Day" celebrating Halifax's founding in 1749 and Dartmouth in 1750.

I remember when Halifax and Dartmouth had two separate holidays, each a weekend apart. They merged them into one weekend before Amalgamation merged the cities but when i was a kid, if you worked in Halifax you got the whole day off and a half day for Dartmouth Natal Day and if you worked in Dartmouth you got the whole day off for Dartmouth natal day and half a day for Halifax. Dartmouth's fireworks were over Lake Banook and were always way better than Halifax. Now though they are combined they are usually nothing spectacular though each year is billed as bigger and better than ever. Pah, a few sparks and that's it. The only good ones i saw in recent years were the ones for the Milennium and again on January 1 the next night.

They still have separate parades, one on Sunday and one on Monday, and they still have some of the traditional events like the road race and bridge walk though because of the Tall Ships, they didn't want to close one bridge to traffic all afternoon so they held the bridge walk on Canada Day.

There's so much going on this weekend mainly on the Halifax waterfront. The Acadian festival, a blues tent, a celtic tent, the ships... they'r still holding things like the amateur talent show in Dartmouth but i can't see it being very popular this year other than a few people that just don't want to brave the crowds in Halifax. Not me. I'll be in the thick of it at least for awhile. :)

We walked along the waterfront for 2 hours. Stopped for a cold beer about half way. My feet ache. My hip aches. my back isn't too bad right now. No sunburn, i was smart and put on sunscreen. Took about 40 pics including ships, close ups and things seen along the waterfront. I want to go back over the weekend to go on board the ships too.

And this icon is made from a photo i accidentally took. We were looking through the digital pics and saw it and we cracked up! I said that's an Icon waiting to happen! Too bad i missed [livejournal.com profile] steer's ugly/scary icon poll by a (nose) hair! ;)
