My favourite book (Day 4)
Dec. 4th, 2009 07:17 pmDay four's meme topic is "Your favourite book". It's hard to pick just one but since my favourite author is Diana Gabaldon, I'm going with one of hers. She has been writing a series of historical time travel romance about a couple called Jacobean Highlander Jamie and mid 20th century nurse/doctor Claire Fraser and their daughter Brianna and her husband Roger. When you think of historical romance, you may think "bodice ripper" but this is a far cry from that genre. It's sharp and smart, well researched and a lot of fun. Her descriptions are vivid and her characters are very believable. She's got 7 books under her belt and there will be at least one more. The first book of the series is called Outlander (Cross Stitch in the U.K. orignally, might be called Outlander now) and I'm picking that for my favourite since it introduced me to the series. It's most definitely worth reading! There's too much story to go into to describe it all without getting very wordy so have a look through the Amazon synopses and see what you think.
I've met her a couple of times at book signings and she's a really lovely woman. She's funny and energetic and really seems to enjoy meeting her readers. When she was here this fall, she had the flu and was determined to sign the book of every person that came and waited in line. What a trooper!
