Started vacation Friday and we've already been fairly busy after a slow start. We had a quiet Saturday but then got the car from Mom on Sunday with the view to meeting up with a friend and her husband from out of town. We missed the ferry so had to drive over to Halifax and park downtown. They are a nice couple from Ontario, recently retired and are driving around Nova Scotia for the next two weeks. They were only in Halifax a little over a day and already realized they'd need more time so I think they're going to stay a few days before they leave. We met up with them, bought tickets for the Tall Ship Silva, had an ice cream while we waited for the departure and went for a sail. Pity the weather wasn't better. It was overcast, misty, humid and heavy. It didn't rain but it looked very much like it could. But because it wasn't too cold, though a bit chilly out on the water, it was fine. They enjoyed it which was the main thing. The ship isn't a nice old wooden tall ship, just a converted steel hull one but it's still nice to get out on the water. We had a nice meal afterwards.

Monday morning G. had to get some bloodwork done. We got some groceries after that and then to Costco so he could pick up a new piece for his hearing aid. From there, home for a bit. We'd bought a metal grocery trolley, the kind that folds down. Mom has two, a larger and a smaller one and we use it to get our heavy stuff in from the car if she's left it in the car. She didn't this time and we thought we would buy one for when we have one rented or use hers and hers isn't in it. We had stocked up on bottles of pop and it sure made it a lot easier to get it all inside.

Which reminds me. I had been looking at the flyers for the shops online at a site that has them altogether. But in the Sobeys store, the pop wasn't .99 a bottle like the flyer said. (and a couple of other things I wanted were not the same advertised price either). I asked someone and he got their paper flyer and it was not in there. I looked it up on my phone and showed him and the flyer was completely different though valid on the same dates. He got a manager and that fella went to find out. He didn't know for sure but suggested it might be for a different region of Canada though it didn't say so. He said they'd let us have the pop for that price if we weren't getting a large amount. We were only getting a half dozen bottles (G's drink of choice, Pepsi Max or Diet Pepsi, plus two Diet Cokes for me) and to tell the cashier he said it was ok. Then she had to get someone to help her override the scan price but they were all very nice about it. I guess I'll have to check the websites for the stores from now on where you tell them your postal code and it gives you the one for where you live.

Monday later on, for 5 o'clock, we were meeting friends at a cafe downtown. It's called the Board room and they have shelves of board games that you can use and play. They only have a few food choices, sandwiches and snacks like candy bowls or popcorn, and they have beers, soft drinks and coffee/teas. We played Balderdash where you make up definitions for words, very hard or obscure words. Those definitions and the real one are read out and the others have to guess which one is the real definition.  It was quite fun and you can be as silly as you like. They do charge you 5 dollars per person as a cover fee, i suppose for upkeep or replacement of the games.

Yesterday I took Mom's car back and stopped in to get a new pair of shoes and some jeans. The shoes, I'd been wanting to try a pair of Sketchers for awhile and while at that shop i looked at the jeans. They had what I wanted in my size so I snapped it up because it's difficult to get my size in the style I like. Everything is skinny jean legs or even straight legged which isn't comfortable either. The boot cut is good and the wide leg ones are good and the wide is what I found. I'm not entirely sure the shoes are going to work for extended walking though. They're quite comfy to wear but maybe still not quite as supportive as my wrecked feet need. I didn't turf the old ones yet. My orthotics fit in them fine and they're slip on which is good but the sole and sides aren't built up as much as a proper sneaker/trainer even though i usually wear mine looser and slide them on rather than re-tie them like I should. We'll see. I've worn them outdoors now so I don't think I can take them back.

Today we ended up on the bus over to Halifax to do some errands. G. had a gift card for an art supply store and I saw some lovely really good quality coloured pencils on sale so I got them. He got some markers, pens and a pad of paper that doesn't bleed using the markers and ended up getting this large canvas. Mom wants him to paint her an abstract for over her sofa so and they had the size we thought would work. Price wasn't too bad either so we got it and schlepped it back on the bus. Plus we had to stop to get some things at the drugstore, including a large pack of toilet roll and kitchen towel so that also had to be schlepped home on the bus. I think tomorrow might be a quiet day! We're picking up the rental car Friday morning and visiting my cousin in the afternoon. Note to self, must get wrapping paper. My cousin got married a couple of weeks ago and we have a cartoon G did for them. . They don't want gifts or cards but we hinted that we might do something and they suspected a cartoon and were happy about it. G only does them for family or special people!

They had a very small private wedding and then a lovely honeymoon in Barbados, only to come home and discover the cat had escaped and she's still missing a week later. They're devastated. They're having a reception/party next week and if they still haven't found the cat, I don't think they'll be in much mood to enjoy themselves. But everything is booked so I guess they'll still have it. There has been a cat resembling theirs spotted in the woods nearby but they haven't been able to lure it out or find it. She's 14 years old and very shy of people and she's probably pretty scared as she's a house cat. Here's hoping!
