Movies and Calendars

tvordljFirst movie of the year, and for the first time in years i didn't buy myself one of those pretty day/date books. I hardly bothered keeping last year's up to date (i.e. writing in movies, things i did, appointments etc. so why waste my money this year? Maybe i will just stick the movie stubs on the wall calendar lol)
But i digress.
Memoirs of a Geisha. Beautiful movie, well shot, lovely cinemetography. It's a chick movie, for sure, and we wondered if the main character was forever going to "love from afar". If you're seen it or read the book, which i haven't, you know the answer. It takes place from about the early 1930's to after the war. I don't know how accurate it is as far as depicting what it was like for women/girls who became geisha but i did find it interesting. The acting was really good, even the child that played Chiyo, the costumes were wonderful and the choreography for the geisha's dancing was so elegant. I liked the actress, Li Gong who played the bitchy rival Hatsumomo, very much. We both agreed that Ken Watanabe has a certain something ;) Colleen didn't think he was particularly handsome but still sexy. I do think he's fairly good looking and he does have on screen chemistry, i'll say that for him.
Speaking of wall calendars, i uploaded photos and created two different ones this year for gifts, one containing a lot of the photos i've taken in London over the years and the other of photos i took on the Granada Coronation Street set a few years ago. They both have a coil type thingy that joins the pages, if you see what i mean. The one for the Corrie calendar is plastic and as i was flipping the pages, they started to slip out. What a pain it was trying to get them back on the little "spikes" so in the end i just ripped the thing out and put the calendar back together from scratch. The other calendar has wire instead of plastic.
I'm having a home day today. Not going to take down the tree yet. Do need to tidy up. Haven't attempted to install the dvd writer yet as i seem to be having a clumsy day and i don't dare lol
