More books...
68 - The Skull Ring - Scott Nicholson
A woman has been dealing with suppressed memories of her father who apparently gave her to a demonic cult. She's fled her home and is living in a small town, working as a newspaper reporter. She's got a new therapist here but there are still brutal dreams and she thinks there is someone watching her. She starts to doubt which of her memories is real and which are planted as she unravels the mystery to get to the truth.
69 Under the Dome - Stephen King
Read the book then watched the series which has very little to do with the book. Some of the things they changed were good, others not so. They certainly watered it down from the original story. Stephen King can put a lot of gruesome on the pages! It's about a small town in Maine that finds itself under an invisible dome and nobody knows how it got there or how to get rid of it. There's a power mad town "Selectman" who controls everything and everybody and a reluctant hero. Good book. I haven't read a King book in a long time. I will have to pick up another one.

70 I Am Currency - Whitney Grady
Post apocalyptic Young Adult adventure about a time when owning books is illegal and there is an underground network to trade them. Information is currency and people with a photographic memory are like gold to the government. Young Neville has one of those and his parents have given him illegal books and records to memorize all his life, but keeping him secret. A young classmate discovers what he is and needs his help. Not bad, skips over a lot of detail post-apocalypse (meteor hits Earth, instantly ruins all technology) though there are apparently things like steam trains for long distance transportation.

72 The House Girl - Tara Conklin
A double story, one about a slave girl, Josephine, her life on the last few days that she lives on a farm before running. In the present day, lawyer Lina has been given a task to find a descendent of a slave to represent a class action recompensatory suit and she comes across a controversy about who really painted the work by Southern artist, Lu Ann Bell who turns out to be Josephine's mistress. Was Josephine the real painter? Does Lina find an ancestor? This was a very good book. Enjoyed it very much.
73 - The Street to Recovery - Kevin Kennedy
Another Coronation Street book, author Kevin Kennedy played the popular Curly Watts for over 20 years, including a break during which he was in rehab for severe alcoholism. This book tells his story. It's not bad but I kept getting the feeling that while he knows he can't drink or it will kill him, he doesn't really know why he became an alcoholic in the first place. He talks about being afraid and insecure yet as he describes it, he had a very good childhood with a very supportive family, got into drama school easily and has had a successful career. He also comes across at times as shallow and thoughtless and sometimes he does admit it, though others, he doesn't seem to "get it". It was interesting nonetheless.
74 - Maddaddam - Margaret Lawrence
The last of a trilogy about a world struggling to survive after an engineered virus has wiped out most of the inhabitants of the planet. This continues the story from The Year of the Flood pretty much from where that left off. There's a small group of survivors and a group of biologically engineered people called the Crakers struggling to survive. Mostly it seems to be the story of Zeb and Adam as told through himself or Toby his lover and related to the Crakers. Their story is another side of pre-and post- "flood" (the virus) society.
75 - The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald
Short novel, if you've seen either version of the movie, you'll know the story of Gatsby, an enigmatic millionaire pining for a lost love, Daisy who's married to brutal Tom Buchanan who has been having one of his many affairs. This mistress is the wife of a local mechanic. The story is told through the eyes of Daisy's cousin, Gatsby's neighbour Nick who gets drawn into the whole mess. It doesn't end well and is almost Shakespearean in it's tragedy.
