Wedding week is going to be busy. We will  have a meeting with the photographer, checking out the park where we may do outside photos, weather permitting, and a stop at the hotel so he can suss out the layout etc. We have two airport pickups for guests arriving from out of town, then of course the rehearsal the night before and rehearsal dinner.

Gotta sort out the cake.
One or two more things to finalize.
G. has to do the Thank You note artwork because we're doing those as well so then will need to get that printed. Not sure how many to get. At least with blank Thank You notes, they can always be used in future.
RSVP coming in. Pretty much all the family I invited have replied, one couple still away.
A few on the friends list still outstanding, need to contact them to confirm one way or the other.
Got to contact a pub downtown for the post-wedding meet and greet. Not sure of numbers there yet. Both of the places I have in mind have a section that's kind of separated. Not private but off to one side.

And last but not least...

24 - The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie - Muriel Spark
I fancied reading the book and then fancied seeing the movie again. Wonderful stuff. Wasn't Maggie Smith young in the movie!!

25 - All My Life: A Memoir - Susan Lucci (and a ghost writer)
Autobiography of the woman that made Erica Kane a soap household name. She's even more famous for being nominated for a Daytime Emmy 19 times before she won! It was ok. She comes across very nice and also one of these people that seem to be able to successfully have and do it all. Great husband, great kids, loves her job. The show was actually cancelled a few months after this was released so it would have been interesting to hear how she handled it, but probably it would have been with the perfect 'C'est la vie' she seems to handle everything with. I watched the soap she was on, All My Children for many years on and off from the 70s to about 8 or 9 years ago so was interested to hear the backstage chat.

26 - The Girl on the Train - Paula Hawkins
Decent story with a woman who sees a couple from her daily train commute. Makes up a life for them in her imagination. They also happen to live a few doors down from where she lived with her husband before they split up. Lots of baggage there. The woman in the house goes missing. We have the story from the point of view of three women, the woman on the train, the one that went missing (backtracks from about a year forward to when she went missing) and the new wife of the first woman's ex. None of the characters are very likeable and most of them are sad and depressed and at first it got a bit wearing but after the story really kicked in, I found I was very interested. Flaws? yes. But I liked it.

27 - The Miniaturist - Jessie Burton
Historical fiction in late 18th century Amsterdam. A newly married woman must contend with a husband that doesn't seem all that interested (arranged marriage) and his sister who seems very prickly and not very friendly. There are two servants in the house that are more supportive. her gift from her husband is a miniature "doll's house" of their own house and she starts to put items in it, having found a miniaturist's ad. But the crafts person keeps sending items unasked for and they all seem to predict the future or reflect things that have just happened. That's not really explained. The wife finds out a secret about her husband that i saw coming a mile off. The story ends on a tragic but maybe hopeful note. I did like this book quite a lot in spite of a few flaws. I liked the characters and the setting and mostly the story was compelling too.

28 - Mr. Mercedes - Stephen King
Another good book by King, this time a retired detective chases down a serial killer on his own and later with the help of two others. not the best "detective/murder" type book but I did like it a lot and the killer, whose identity we know fairly early on, is really well drawn out. Really bonkers!
