Feb. 22nd, 2016 04:02 pmThe movie yesterday was really good, at least for us art lovers. We saw lots of shots of Florence, both at street level and aerial views of the city and countryside and there was a really good set of paintings and sculpture from the Italian Rennaissance as well, from the early Giotto and Caravaggio and Donatello to Michaelangelo and Botticelli. Wonderful stuff! I'd like to go to more of these and i know Graham would like them too since he's got an art background. There are features coming up about Da Vinci, Renoir and the gardens of the Impressionists. THey also do stage and opera series streaming both live and another "encore" event. Usually the live ones are in the afternoons and not always on weekends so the encore is better. The gallery series seems to be in 3D on the first showing and later, a few weeks later in 2D. We saw the 2D version and I can't honestly say it would have been all that greatly enhanced in 3D. Many of the works of are are flat paintings and i don't think the extra depth would really add to my enjoyment for the few sculpture pieces or the inside views of buildings. Your mileage may vary.
I'd like to go to the stage ones, often they are Shakespeare plays out of London's West End or Ontario's Stratford festival. My friend goes to all of the Opera events and I thought maybe I'd like to try one sometime. I've never been to an opera. I do like the male voices but i'm not as keen on the female voices but I'd still be willing to go. I'm sure the staging and spectacle would be amazing. She says they do subtitling as well so you can tell what the Opera is about and there are often interviews before or after.
I tried to do my income tax return over the past few days. The sticking point was trying to get it to work once i'd registered my marriage. He isn't a resident, doesn't have Canadian income, nor a social insurance card. I got a bit snarled up, with errors stopping me here and there. I finally contacted someone i know that's an accountant that I think does taxes and she suggested a couple of things and I also finally called Revenue Canada. The call centre worker was a bit abrupt with me, I have to say, not very friendly. Basically, it was, No you do this no you can't do that. No. No. all in a rather curt tone of voice. It wouldn't have killed him to be a little nicer. Anyway, going from what he told me, I got more info from G. and ticked all the boxes that register the change in marital status, and that he isn't a resident, etc, and entered his net income and even though i couldn't enter a social insurance number, the software breezed through without an issue. I just hope it doesn't set off any flags or alarms and my refund is paid through! I always get some back, not a huge amount but enough to contribute towards trip expenses or outstanding bills. I'll probably use some of this on a bill and the rest for the trip or to help out a bit with G.'s moving expenses.
