Attention all Telemarketers!!! When i say no thank you i'm not interested, i MEAN it. DON'T try to bully, manipulate or cajole me! I know you have a job to do and i politely listened to your spiel. I may even have asked a question or two but when i say i'm not interested, i'm NOT. I have a "polite" gene that makes it diffult to just hang up on you in mid-sentence but i will if i have to. I have done it before and i'm not afraid to do it again. Yes it sounds like a very good deal but i'm not someone you can talk around if it's not something i need.

Yeesh.

Last night it was the cell/mobile phone people. Free this, that and no hookup fee. I'd prefer pay as you go without a card that expires but you can't get them here. The chip has an expiry date so if you don't use your minutes, you lose them or have to roll them over to a new card. Oh, sez she on the phone, but it's more expensive to go that route. Not if i would only use the phone an average of once or twice a month if that, it won't be more expensive.

I thought of getting one last year, one that i could take to Europe with me when i travelled. Planned to get a pay as you go chip over there to avoid the huge long distance and roaming fees. Guess what? the company that i would have to go with here charges $250 to unlock the phone so that a different card can be put in!!! Bloody hell! what's the frigging point then? Cheaper to buy a cheap mobile when i'm away! Better yet, use a phone card like i usually do. Just thought it might be handy to have when i wasn't near a pay phone. Oh well. The mobile world can do without me for awhile longer.

I once had one guy call me was soo pushy, I had no choice but to hang up on him.

It was about different phone plans and companies, and he said that if I switched I could save myself this/that those things... Well, I listened, played along for a while, but bottom line, I wasn't going to be swayed, and didn't want to change plans. Well, he got to being quite RUDE, going on about, how he couldnt' believe I wasn't interested in saving myself XX dollars per month and so on... until, CLICK.

SLAM DUNK, you're GONE !

Oh yes they're the worst!! I had one from Sprint that i had to hang up on too. My ace in the hold with long distance operators is that mine offers Air Canada aeroplan miles. Unless you can give me that with the same long distance rates i get, then i'll never be interested

We were having dinner here with friends on Friday night and got talking about dealing with telemarketers. We had such a laugh hearing about the way each of us dealt with them. Tim and I have just taken to saying "One moment please" and putting the phone down somewhere so they yap into dead air.

Sharon said recently she had pretended to be really dumb and the guy had eventually got so frustrated trying to explain things to her that he was the one who hung up. Another thing we thought might work was parroting back everything they said, just like kids do when they want to annoy someone.

Sharon also has a collection of defenses ready. Flooring calls? She says she has a dirt floor (this gets some wonderful reactions). Aluminum siding? Her house is brick. Phone services? She says she doesn't have a phone (!!).

We agreed that we felt sorry for folks who had to make a living that way, and that usually if we are called within business hours, we are polite to them, but those who call us during the evening are fair game.

Would you believe that the phone rang while we were talking, and yes, it was a telemarketer? We did the "put the phone down" thing but we were all screaming with laughter and the guy MUST have heard us :))

I liked the one about phone services... sorry, i don't have a phone ! GOOD ONE ! Yeah, I agree, I do feel sorry for some who make a living at it, cause some people are JUST RUDE. But I don't agree with them calling at all hours of the evening either.

Made me laugh when you said the phone rang in the middle of your discussion... ever been humming or singing a song, and you decide to turn the radio on, and whoooo... the song you've been singing is playing ??
