Nov. 28th, 2005 09:25 amFurther to the post about my text message woes, If you texted me, i didn't get it. Thanks for trying. I've been on to Rogers twice this morning since the real techies weren't in when i first called (call center was in Ontario, an hour back of my time zone). So the status is that text messages do appear to be getting *to* the UK (Vodaphone, TMobile) but none are getting back to me. The ones that do get through *from* me are showing up as from a different number than mine, some sort of relay company i expect and my number is embedded in the text message itself. Weird but better than you getting an unidentifiable text. I should start signing my texts! The end result is that apparently there is a problem though it doesn't appear to be with Rogers, it appears to be on the UK end, in spite of the fact that there are two different mobile companies involved. The call taker already knew there was an open request to Vodaphone because of problems and she added one for TMobile. I suspect whatever company does the relay for the international text communications might be the problem. Landline to Tmobile worked but that's a different species so i didn't mention that to them.
It's frustrating. Gah. I didn't check to see if texts would get through using my sister's mobile, she's on Telus not Rogers. I don't know if my mother's mobile plan does text messaging, i could have tried from that phone too as she's on a different network again, Aliant which i think is attached to Bell Mobility.
My UK mobile doesn't work here as it's not triband. Why can't all the technologies be the same! Regional differences in dvd's and video tape, in tv broadcasting (pal/ntsc/etc.), electrical voltage differences... I blame the Tower of Babel ;)))))
