Mar. 7th, 2006 08:36 amWeather Network is forecasting light rain or showers for Toronto all weekend. The upside is that the temps are going to be very nice, 8 - 10 degrees! Woot! Guess i should find my brolly and pack that. It was still below zero yesterday but somewhere in there i almost detected a hint of spring. Not that actual spring will come until long after the official March 21 date but there seemed to be a change in the air. This does not mean we won't get a snowstorm before it's all over because we usually do get one more in March.
Because of going to Niagara falls, i think i'll end up bringing all my camera equipment though i don't really want to bring the camera bag because having a purse and that will be too much faff. I can pop the digital camera in a pocket that is inside my coat and i can carry the SLR in my purse along with the telephoto lens. I won't normally carry that around all weekend, just for Niagara. I like to have the SLR for travel photos, scenery etc. but i like the digital for people shots, sitting in pubs, parties etc. When Graham and i go around sightseeing, one of us takes the slr and one of us has the digital so that we can each take photos. between us though, i think we own about 5 or 6 cameras. He's got a couple of cheap digitals and one (or two?) slr's and possibly a point and shoot, and i have my slr and my digital. I sold the point and shoot 35mm film camera now that i use the digital for point and shoot. The only thing i would prefer regarding my digital is that it could have a bit faster shutter speed in the non-flash mode. or at least show the camera shake less. I think newer cameras have stabilizers and are a bit faster. The slr is heavier and larger and i can hold it steadier in low light plus if i want to, change it to manual and manipulate the shutter speed. I don't think i'll get a new digital until i can afford a digital slr though.
This past Christmas i took photos of Coronation Street set and made them into a calendar. I also did the same with photos i've taken of London over the years. Both were made as Christmas Gifts. What my next photo project is going to be is to take photos around Salford, where Graham and his Dad live. I am thinking of taking them with the digital on the sepia setting and making up a calendar for his dad for Christmas next year. There are plenty of older buildings, churches and some nice parks as well as views along the Irwell that would go nicely i think. We might try to find some of the areas where his Dad grew up if any of the old neighbourhoods or buildings are still there. It'll be late May too, so the leaves on the trees will be out and that will make it nice.
