Accolades etc.
Feb. 12th, 2007 07:53 amEpisode 5 of Season 2 of Rome last night. That series continues to impress me and i'm finding Ray Stevenson as Titus Pullo quite a bit of hot totty! James Purefoy as Mark Antony isn't half bad either ;))
Local singer Gordie Sampson won a Grammy award last night for best Country song. Well done! I can't say i'm at all familiar with any of his work and the song he won for, Jesus Take the Wheel, really doesn't sound like my kind of thing but it's nice that a Canadian and someone local got the recognition. Actually the song probably does sound like something that would win a Grammy. Think of all the singers that get up on stage to accept their awards and thank Jesus. ;) Country music especially, i guess, seeing as a lot of the artists grew up in the Bible Belt.
A university student found $10,000 by a bank machine the other week and turned it in. He mentioned in the newspaper interview that his student loan was reassessed and he was going to be pretty broke for the rest of the school year but he didn't regret giving the money back. (It was dropped by a security agent servicing the ATM, the company did give him a $500 reward for returning the money). Now after being on a couple of national tv and radio spots, it seems he may be getting an anonymous donor wanting to help him out for the rest of the school year.
The premier of Nova Scotia blased the media, in particular the Daily News for spreading and focussing on all the negative things his one year old minority government has done and not reporting on good things they've done. Do you think that's going to change? I don't. I think it's like a red flag to a bull. I can just hear the editor now... "Well if they *will* keep on stuffing up........"
Good God there's red everywhere. Carnage. Yep, Valentine's Day is coming up. Every newspaper ad, every store window has red displays, even the chiropractor's window declares that February is "heart" health month! All the jewelry stores are pushing diamonds and red, red rubies in little heart shapes. Any store that can get away with it is pushing chocolate. The newspaper had a menu for a romantic dinner that you could whip up, all very exotic recipes i might add. I think you'd be too pooped to pop the champagne by the time you were finished slaving in the hot kitchen. They also suggested alternatives to very price-inflated roses, like...Calla lillies or orchids. Maybe with a few tiny roses in there for colour. Um. Yeah. There's a columnist that has polled moms to find out what they *really* want for VD (time to themselves tops the list), there's an article that says 9 million animal owners will buy their pet something for VD and another poll that says intelligence and faithfulness are the top things they look for in a mate. And in the drug store, for over a week or more now, the Valentine chocolate and candy sits side by side with the Easter candy and little fuzzy chicks and bunnies! Sheesh! The retail industry scares me.
