Strike One

Yeah. So Metro Transit now has a strike mandate. That doesn't mean they're on strike, just that 98% of the union voted to reject the contract offer. They are still going to be negotiating apparently but they have the mandate and can always use it when they want. I think they have to give 48 hours notice. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. I guess i'll have to see if i can sort out a car pool. Then there's the potential Jury Duty. I have to report to the court on Sept. 4. If the transit is on strike and i'm in a car pool, that could restrict my attendance if it goes later then whenever my ride leaves. THey do pay a daily stipend but i don't know if you get it each day or at the end of the trial. The stipend would probably be enough to pay for cabs home if i can get in with someone in the morning. But cabs on a traffic clogged bridge isn't going to be pretty or cheap either.

New hair

I got it cut short today at lunchtime. It means a bit of fussing so we'll see how i get on. Mousse for volume and some other sticky stuff.

Rat Bastards

Was supposed to have a meeting this morning with two of the managers from the Transit area. Cancelled. They had a few more important things to do, like figuring out a backup plan in case there's a strike. Backup doesn't mean anyone's going to be driving the busses, mind you.

I walked from a further bus stop after work and along a boardwalk around part of the lake by me. Stopped for a minute to watch the ducks and wished i had my camera. Beautiful, clear light, bright sunshine and blue sky with puffy clouds. The water and the trees and the grasses in the lake all seemed so vivid. Then i saw another creature running along the boardwalk, a grey rat the size of my hand at least. I didn't get too close because he was running away from me. Then he veered off and i guess, tried to jump to a big rock beside the boardwalk but i saw a splash so i guess he didn't make it lol I suppose the buggers can swim. Everyone knows about rats leaving a sinking ship!
