Today's topic is a hobby of mine.
Yesterday was all about photography so my other hobby, i guess, is painting. In conjunction with my usual New Year's Resolution to try new things, a few years ago i decided i wanted to learn how to paint. With oils. I tried taking a class but it wasn't overly successful, most of it i still had to figure out myself but i think i did ok. That doesn't mean i still don't think a lot of my paintings are all that good though [livejournal.com profile] gramie_dee has nothing but praise for each and every one and earns a million Good Fiance points for it. I haven't been painting as much lately but I really do want to do some more. I keep saving photos i find that i think will make nice paintings so it's not like i'm suffering for choice. I always paint from a photo for the most part. The one time i didn't, i wasn't all that keen on the result.

I tend to paint landscape type stuff, or scenes, not people. i maintain that if i tried to do people they'd come out looking like Bart Simpson.

No snow yet but it looks grim out there.

Every year, [livejournal.com profile] gramie_dee and i open our presents with the webcams on so we can see each other opening, and of course, we generally do it a few days before Christmas. He also always writes a song for me and this year's was inspired by ZZ Top, only he calls it GG Top! The song is called Lovin' Long Distance and if you click here you can hear it. Another brilliant tune!! xoxxoxo

He also gave me a dvd, a book and some chocolate and a lovely silver celtic knotwork necklace that sits right at my collarbone
And of course the cd art goes with it! )

Our storm really hasn't amounted to as much as they said it would, as is usualy the way. It has been snowing, mind you, but there's only a few inches down coating everything.

I spent a few hours this afternoon making my version of the caramel pecan candy, Turtles. I don't make them look like the store bought ones, as that involves fiddling around with molds and they're fiddly enough as it is. And in keeping with some LJ people's tradition, a pictorial guide to making them. Recipe at the end.
