Jun. 27th, 2010 12:09 amI didn't go to the Commons to the pow wow this afternoon after all. The weather looked very unstable and i didn't want to be over there in the rain. I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much on an overcast windy day either so i stayed here. I was going to go for groceries but Mom and i are going to go tomorrow instead. I did get out tonight and went to a coworker's place for a barbeque and chat. They're going to UK and Ireland in August so we were talking all about that and travel in general. Next weekend Mom and i are doing an extra-long weekend road trip leaving Thursday morning and coming back on Sunday to the lovely old town of Annapolis Royal in the Annapolis Valley. It's quite an old town by our standards and is near the site of Port Royal, where the first French settlement was established by Samuel deChamplain in 1605, making it the first *permanent* settlement in North American north of St. Augustine, Florida. Jamestown, Virginia was 2 years later. It was quite an important fort in Nova Scotia before Halifax was founded in 1749 and the French ejected from the area. They have restored the fortress now and there is also remains of another fort right in the town, Fort Anne. There's a nice botanic garden and a farmer's market and little shops and museums and nice places to drive out around.
