I know other parts of Canada have smokin hot weather most of the summer and we only get it for a few days to a week maybe twice during the summer but man, since we're not used to it, it sure seems unbearable when we do get it. And we got it. This week! Temps over 30 and "feels like" temps due to 55 and 60% humidity are up close to 40. Makes me very glad i work in air conditioned offices but it's not great for sleeping. The ceiling fan makes it just barely bearable even if it's only moving hot air around. 6 a.m. and it's over 20 already!

Ok, got that whinge off my chest. In the big picture, it's not that bad i suppose. We've had a lot of sun this summer for a change though we could possibly be hit with a hurricane this weekend. Hurricane Earl is on its way and as of this morning there's a 30% chance it will hit southern NS. Even if it misses us, it seems likely we'll get a lot of rain and wind anyway. Hurricane Juan ended up being a category 2 or even a 3 considering the damage it did to this region back in 2003 and nobody wants to see that again.

First session with my new trainer this week. I did go to the gym on Monday and my sore ankle wasn't too bad on the treadmill so it's back up on the horse for me, so to speak.

2010 books

24: Quentins by Maeve Binchy
I haven't read her in awhile and though i didn't think i'd read this before, parts of it are familiar. It could be that i've read it before, it could just be that her books are much the same, but also a lot of her characters and even references to their storylines appear in many of her books so it could just be that. It's about a young woman who gets involved with a married man, completely duped by him and finds out he's a financial scammer. Meanwhile she's helping friends work on a documentary about a local restaurant, Quintens so you get the story of that, plus the people that work and dine there regularly. It's pretty much typical Maeve but I do like her books for the most part.

Hurricane Earl is still expected in some form. Now they're saying it *could* hit land a bit west of the province but they really can't be sure. In any case, we'll have a stormy day probably Saturday. The grocery stores are already insane with people stocking up for a seige. Most of us really don't need much. An ice pack to keep the freezer cool, bread, juice, water, batteries and stuff to make sandwiches which you can keep cool in a picnic cooler with another ice pack if you have to.

Cripes i think my body is ganging up on me! I could whinge about specifics but suffice it to say i have more random aches, pains and aggravations popping up all over! Sheesh! And what do i do about it? Go to the gym for a session with the trainer to add to the list! Those kinds of aches and pains i don't mind. My ankle is still tender and i've got pain in the other one too, which the chiropractor thinks could be a bit of tendonitis getting used to the new orthotics. I'm getting well sick and tired of hobbling around and feeling like a lumbering bear!

And it's hot! 41 with the "humidex" and 34 without. It's going to make the storm heading our way even more hurricane-ish, i fear, but it might not hit HRM directly so all we'll get is a lot of wind and rain, i should imagine. It'll cut the humidity and heat at least. It's a long holiday weekend that's going to start with a bang! Not all the busses are air conditioned, either, and it was a sauna coming home tonight. I really pity the poor driver, though, he's got to sit in it for hours! My apartment is warm... but sitting here with the fan on and it's bearable. Just. The ceiling fan in the bedroom makes that bearable so i do manage to get a bit of sleep.

Gonna take my paperwork in to the passport office on Friday after work, hoping that the Friday before a long and stormy weekend will keep the lines short! Lunchtime is usually not a good time to go. I've got everything together and signed and verified so hopefully they won't give me too hard a time over losing my old passport. I still haven't found it and it's got to be in this apartment somewhere but there's always the possibility it got accidentally thrown out with some unpacking stuff i suppose, when i got back. There's always a load of bags and papers that are no longer needed and get tossed. I can only suspect it might have got mixed in with that if that's what happened. Or i'll get the new one and find the old one somewhere i hadn't thought to look!
