Everyone's a critic
May. 24th, 2009 04:17 pmWe had a Corrie "ping" this afternoon. Our program is pretty much the same all the time... we do a trivia quiz, a game or two, we raffle off some prizes and i usually get up and talk about recent plots and characters on the show. I try to get people involved and i do admit i may ramble a bit especially when i'm done but want to see if anyone has something they want to talk about. Today, there were a few notes left on a table, both of them criticizing my "talk".... One said it was really really bad and if it was going to be a regular feature they wouldn't return. Obviously they're new. Another one just left a note with my name and "Boring". Probably from the same table i suppose. Now i'm not taking it personally. Unsigned notes are the coward's way out and out of 80 people, i'm sure some people may find the chat not very interesting. It's odd, though, that someone that comes to a Coronation Street get together might find talk about the show boring. Or maybe it's just the way i do it that they don't like. Most of the crowd seemed and always do seem interested so that's all that matters. I don't really mind but it is a weird feeling to get that sort of criticism after all these years of doing it.
On the plus side, though, we presented our founder with a beautiful cartoon that Graham drew of him and all the Corrie stars that have visited Halifax to date. He was the one that had the dream of bringing a star here and he made it happen. The event sells out at 700 bums in seats every year these days.
