(no subject)

There was a little red box with some candies and a chocolate heart on our desks this morning, courtesy of the department social committee. Later another coworker brought round some little heart shaped shortbread cookies. There was also a Valentine Day bake sale on our floor so i have a few goodies to work off at the gym tomorrow. I"m not overly much a fan of Valentine's day. I was single for a very long time and even though there are some attempts made to include non-coupled people, the media blitz is so overwhelmingly "couples" that singles always felt a bit second class. Once i became part of a couple again, i told myself we wouldn't make a big deal out of the day and we don't, though we buy cards for each other but that's it. No gifts or flowers, and obviously since we don't live in the same city, there's no meals out etc. When we do live together, that still won't happen because it annoys me that prices are jacked up for the day.

And having said that, Graham did send me a really nice card with some nice things that he wrote in it. Made me cry... in a good way!

Work is busy, we put an upgrade in place a couple of weekends ago and that's still having a few glitches that need ironing out. The interface is quite a bit different than people are used to so it takes some getting used to. Then this weekend we have another upgrade going in with a whole other set of potential complications afterwards though it's all been tested etc. There will be a few other similar projects coming up too as we switch away from older technology to newer. Retirement is looking more and more attractive. I'd do it but my pension still isn't really comfortable enough. It's nice to know, though, that after the beginning of December, i *could* take my pension and go.
