Nov. 3rd, 2013 07:13 pmFriday was the first of my to-use vacation days, timed to coincide with my employer's "long term" service awards, when you get a gift and recognition for milestone years of service, 25 in my case. They did a lovely lunch, with a slide show of things that were in the news or sports or some old ads from 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 years ago and one stalwart dude was getting recognition for 45 years! We got to pick our own gifts out this year and I selected an abstract polished aluminum bear with a fish in his mouth, set on a marble base. Quite nice, and it's heavy, too. The sculpture is modeled after the Canadian artist Gord Hoselton's work. I don't think he's still alive but there are still pieces being manufactured after his designs.
I borrowed Mom's car making it easier to get there, anticipating a windy rainstorm. It was windy but i managed to evade the rain at least. Popped over to get a Christmas gift for someone after and came home. Saturday I visited the cemetery, stocked up on some meat at a local shop that I had heard was cheaper than the grocery stores with better quality meat. Can't speak for the quality yet but it definitely was cheaper. Took the car back and Mom drove me home later. Still overcast, and some rain. Even today was blah weather wise.
This week will be a 5 day week but after that there will be short weeks so i can use up my holiday days. Am taking a 5 day weekend next weekend, Monday being a holiday anyway, and taking the Tuesday and Wednesday. Our Corrie actor event is the Tuesday night and I'm volunteering to help out that night and staying over in the hotel. It's so much easier than getting back home late and having to inconvenience someone to drive me. I also sent him some interview questions via email via the chair of the committee, who said he agreed to do them. I must see if she'll remind him gently. I'd like to put them on the blog the day or the day after he's here. I hope he still has the email because I don't think I kept my sent copy. Or hope that the chair still has the copy. I can remember some of them if i have to re-send and i'll think of a few more if I need to resend the set of questions.
