Mar. 17th, 2014 11:44 amGraham's dad is still in hospital as of yesterday though he's been moved to a ward that would indicate that he's much better and nearly ready to come home. Haven't heard today yet but the doctor would be in to see him this morning to assess whether he can go home. It took so long because at first they had to get the fluid down out of his legs and then they wanted his blood oxygen levels up more. I suppose this all is something that is going to happen now and then as COPD is a chronic lung condition and it isn't going to get better. It can be managed and if he was a bit less stubborn and went to the doctor when he's first not feeling well, he might not have to spend a week in the hospital.
Weekend was nice. A bit quiet but i went out for a nice meal in a Greek restaurant on Friday night with a friend for my belated birthday meal. There were no movies we really wanted to see so we wandered around in the shops a bit. I got four pretty glass plates, the size of a side plate that you'd use for bread or for a sandwich, $5.00 each marked for clearance at Pier One Import. Mom had given me some money for my birthday so i used that. In retrospect I probably should have just bought all six that they had. I think they're actually supposed to be Christmassy. They're clear glass based, with transparent blocks of red, green, gold and possibly blue around the rims and there's some gold trim as well but they're not obviously Christmas themed and I think they're pretty and I'm going to use them every day :)
Sunday, I went to Chapters with my mom and my auntie and bought yet another Paris themed book. It's by a travel writer who moved to Paris in the mid-80s and is about his experiences living there. I can't find the name of the book just now so i can't link to it. I've been going a bit crazy with Paris books and guides which is odd since i've been there before. It's not like it's anything new exactly though we'll be doing and seeing different stuff than last time.
I have to start thinking about scheduling my usual pre-trip tasks like the pedicure and getting my hair trimmed. Got to get a few things to take over and i suppose i will get my suitcase out of the storage closet this weekend. Also should plug in the laptop and get it up to date and charged. I don't have a working wifi modem at the moment but I can plug in the network cable. My friend offered to lend me her GPS and she will swap out the UK maps as she has a subscription to the company, TomTom i think she's got. That's so nice! I was going to buy one since we end up renting one with the rental car and it would pay for itself after the one rental even though I don't have a car of my own! I also have to decide what i'm doing with my phone. I think i might purchase an international text-only package from Telus and then get a local Sim from the UK when i get there. I just need the texting for basic communication when i first arrive. My old UK number is gone and the old sim won't fit the new phone anyway. I can't order it online as they don't deliver outside of the UK so i think i'll have enough time between flights to do it at the airport or if not, we can go to the phone store the next day.
