Feb. 17th, 2016 09:07 amMy mom's birthday today.
I was looking for a photo to post on Facebook. I didn't have a lot here at work but i have a few and one of them showed her in a tent at a flea market wearing an old top hat. It reminded me that she and I have a lot of "adventures". I'll be the one that calls and says let's go here or there, somewhere like this huge flea market, or to a local historic house or tea room. We've gone to the farmer's market, we've gone to an antique car show, sometimes movies, our bookstore trips, of course, I take her on occasional road trips, sometimes with my Auntie J as well, plus all the usual shopping and lunch and tea dates. Then we have also had our awesome trip to London to look back on. That's 8 years ago!
Before Dad died, we didn't do as much together like that though I would go with them on outings now and then. Once she was on her own, though, it was a good way of keeping her company and getting out of the house, seeing and doing things she and Dad might not have thought to do themselves. I try not to think about it, but i'm grateful for every year I still have her. Everyone my age has parents in the 80 - 90 age range and are starting to lose them if they haven't already. I'm looking forward to Graham getting to know her better, too, once he moves here. He's happy to go out with her in the daytime if he's free, to help her with groceries or do errands or drive her somewhere she's not comfortable driving. He lost his mother many years ago and he and my mother get on really well.
