Nov. 13th, 2016 11:23 amWe didn't get to Costco early enough yesterday! We never planned to get there at opening time but did make it before 10 but the parking lot was so full we couldn't find a space that someone else wasn't waiting for ahead of us so we went over to Walmart first. Because of that, I think we got a good deal on the new microwave. Probably wouldn't have got a lower price than what we paid if we'd bought it at Costco. There were two in the aisle display, one for 65 and one for 79. The higher priced was was 900w which is the one we got. I preferred the more powerful machine and the other thing that sold it was the manual door opening handle rather than the push lever which is what broke on the old one. I think it's slightly smaller than the old one but the turntable still fits a dinner plate and the panel is bright and readable.
We picked up a few other things there and then after a quick stop at Staples, headed back to Costco. we did find a spot to park eventually! The place was sooo busy, which is typical on weekends coming close to Christmas but I was shocked when we got to the checkouts to find they weren't lined up ridiculously.Good timing, I guess. We also picked up groceries and between everything we got everywhere, it took us three trips to the car to get everything back up to the apartment and thank the shopping gods we bought that wire trolley! I just had a thought. I should check the turntable in the old microwave to see if it fits the new machine. It wouldn't hurt to have a spare. I had a microwave once where the glass turntable broke.
The microwave has a few preset buttons to do common things like doing potatoes, pizza and popcorn. The pizza button makes Graham laugh, he says "it's so specifiic" but i figure Pizza is very popular in North America so reheating leftover pizza here is probably more common. Then he said he saw something on television about the best ways to reheat pizza and the best way is apparently in a frying pan with a lid on, it kind of steams it but still the crust comes out crispy but it's the best way for texture etc. Must try it. It makes sense. Microwaves don't heat evenly and an oven takes too long and dries things out.
