I've mentione before, i think, Mom and I are going to go away for a few days to Prince Edward Island, a little province off the east coast of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. It's mostly rural, lots of rolling hills and because there's a lot of clay in the soil, the earth is quite red/ terra cotta. Famous for golfing, lobster, potatoes and of course, Anne of Green Gables, PEI is a really pretty place. Tourism is an important industry so there are lots of B&B's, cottages and inns. PEI is also famous in Canadian History. In the capital city, Charlottetown, the Dominion of Canada was ratified in 1867. Oddly enough, PEI did not actually join Canada then, not until 6 years later after entertaining a bid from the US to join them! Something else i didn't know, it's original name was St. John's Island but it was changed because there was a St. John's in the nearby province of Newfoundland and Saint John over in New Brunswick.

So anyway, after that little history lesson, back to the purpose of the post. I've booked a Bed and Breakfast Inn, called the Beach House Inn which is not far from Cavendish. they have some lovely rooms and two or three cottages, one of which i have booked. I've discovered that a great many of these lovely inns mostly only have queen and king bedded rooms. If they do have twin rooms they are up in the top floors of the houses which is not great for Mom to have to climb too many stairs. I'm not over fond of it myself. Anyway one of the cottages in this place has two double beds and a sitting area along with en suite. Here's the photo from their website. Off season rates ended up $20 cheaper for off season rates so that's good. Two nights there in mid October and a night at my cousin's place on the other end of the province. Nice thing though, PEI is so small that nothing is very far away.

I'm jealous. I've looked at that place a dozen times and everytime I try to book there isn't any availability!

We're staying here again in October...this time we're going for the whole Thanksgiving Weekend...

Is Prince Edward Island where Anne of Green Gables is set or am I getting it confused with somewhere else? :)

LOL and yes. It is, not far from Cavendish though the other side of the bay from where we're staying. Mom isn't interested in Anne stuff though so we'll not bother. Apparently the Japanese are absolutely MAD for Anne!!

Aw, how cool! I would be tearing off to see all the Anne of Avonlea type places as I love those books so much! I still love Gilbert Blythe! ;)

OOh, ooh- is jealous! Though I have no right to be, in view of my imminent trip. But I have wanted to visit PEI since I was about 10, and the places I'm going are more exciting and have real people in I'm keen to meet, but the literary/imaginative associations are something different. I think if I did ever get there I would also avoid the actual Anne stuff, and just enjoy the general scenery and atmosphere, rather than go location spotting.
Have a good time, and I shall enjoy your pictures.

Isn't it beautiful? The breakfast room is in the main Inn. I just hope the weather holds.

I emailed her the links and she's got back to me, all excited :)) she's letting me make all the arrangements and we're splitting on the costs of the gas and the inn and stuff.
