St. Patrick's Day was first observed in North America, not in Ireland, in 1737.

Today is the feast day of St. Joseph and it is very unlucky for couples to marry on this date. Allegedly.

Well unless Easter is very early indeed, it will usually fall in Lent anyway....

Which one? st. Joseph or St. Patrick? Are you not allowed to get married during Lent?

St Joseph. I think St Patrick's Day must always fall in Lent, off the top of my head. Perhaps that's why it was not at first celebrated wildly in Ireland.

And not in church really - and other couples wouldn't know/care about St. Joseph's Day, I assumed.

No, i wouldn't think most people would know about St. Joseph these days. Something was niggling me about marriages during Lent though.
