Oregon has the death penalty, but I am not quite sure when the last time it was exercised (even though there are a few people on death row. Death penalty cases get mucked up in appeals cases and end up costing far more than life without parole. People with life sentences are often eligible to go before the parole board after x-amount of time and could potentially be released - although again I can't think of any really recent cases.
