Pretty good workout with 20 minutes on the treadmill. Gotta say, though, one of the songs on my iPod, Motion by Swarf, really *really* gets me motivated! I love it! The electronic beat and the phenomonally soaring tones of [livejournal.com profile] liz_lowlife put a spring in my step, so much so that i'm almost tempted to do a swirly leap off the back of the treadmill like a music video. I don't but i feel like it. Instead, i find myself walking with a bit more bounce. I also like Fall and Subtext but Motion is Da Bizness! Another great treadmill song is Music Makes Me Happy by the Australian trio Oka. I don't think they're together anymore because when the Buskerfest came last year, one of the guys from Oka was there in a different band. I don't have a lot of use for the Busker Festival since so many of the acts not only nag the audience for a cash donation, they even have the nerve to suggest an amount! I donate if i enjoy the show but not if i'm being pressured to. Oka was great. They'd play, then say they appreciate any donations but if not, enjoy the show. That's the kind of act i'd give a few dollars to. I've even bought some of their cds.

Anyway, that's beside the point.

I generally use a techno type playlist for cardio or another playlist that has good walking tunes. For the weights, it's generally a lot harder, edgy, metal, rock, goth, industrial type stuff. It'll have a heavy, more powerful beat that's slower than the dancey trancey type electronica or faster rock. This is where you'll hear AC/DC, Nine inch Nails, Alice Cooper, Rob Zombie, Stevie Ray Vaughn, (yeah blues rock is good to do the weight machines too, as well!). There's other stuff too, Fad Gadget, David Bowie, Doug and the Slugs, Grand Funk Railroad, Queen... Anyway you get the idea. I do like my iPod for the gym! I don't use it if i'm with the trainer, though, because we chat then. Talking keeps me distracted and i don't realize i'm done my reps until she says so. Anything that gets me through the hour!

Back to the beginning, Thanks [livejournal.com profile] liz_lowlife, just thought you might like to know you're music is still appreciated, even way over the pond!

Sunday was a quiet day. We only went out to visit his dad next door for a bit and stayed in and warm most of the time. Typical, i seem to bring the cold and damp with me though the sun is out today at least. Long term forecast for Copenhagen doesn't look too promising either which is a bit disappointing but i guess we'll just have to do museum stuff and shopping.

Yesterday we went into town and around the Arndale Center (mall). I got a couple of new tops in Evans and some nice tea in Whittard's. We got Graham a new toaster and a new toilet seat and we both got some books and yes i got the final Stieg Larrsson book so i'll have it when i finish the second book which i didn't bring with me. It won't be out in hard cover in Canada for a few weeks yet and the paperback not until the fall i think. We had a disappointing lunch at Henry J Beans. Seems to me it was pretty good last time we went a couple of years ago but this time... my nachos were ok but not wow and Graham's double burger was awful. Very dry, no taste. Service was really slow, too. They said they were busy but it didn't look all that packed out to us. Not to justify the long wait for our food at least. Didn't realize it but there was a Wetherspoons pub right across from it. Should have gone there and probably would have if we'd seen it.

I'm going to be a metal radio goddess! [livejournal.com profile] gramie_dee wants me to record one of his Autopsy Report radio shows with him and i got to pick all the songs so they will be a lot more sedate than his usual fare. There were one or two things i'd have liked to have picked, one or two were electronica type stuff, but he said, well I have to draw the line somewhere lol No matter, i wasn't really expecting to use those choices anyway. We're going to be doing a radio show over in Copenhagen too, with his friend Dave who does Metal Breakfast Radio. Should be interesting. We are bringing some songs for that too, some my choices, some G's. I erred on the heavier side of my tastes for that.

Allegedly, there are rumours floating about that Rush will be playing on the Halifax Commons this summer. There's a countdown on their website, possibly to an announcement of a tour and locally, an announcement is going to be made tomorrow about a gig on the Commons. Also rumoured is a Commons gig by the Black Eyed Peas. Wonder if they'd be on the same ticket? I know they're very different but then that never stopped anyone, did it? Concerts outdoors make for a long day because they generally book 3 or 4 acts and you end up standing for most of it. That's what happened with the Stones and man, were my legs and back tired! Then of course, there is always the rain. Am I willing to brave the possibility of rain to see Rush? It's tempting. There aren't many acts i'd pay to see under those conditions (outside/possibility of rain) but Rush just *might* be one of them.

That Megadeath/Slayer gig we were supposed to go to in November that got rescheduled because of a band member's surgery was set for February and then rescheduled again for July apparently. If this keeps up, it might end up scheduled for October when Graham is here again! He'd love that but I'd have to go since, of course, i still owe him. He went to the hockey game with me in Montreal and i was going to that concert with him.

I've got an irritated eye today. Looks like a little spot on the edge of my eyelid, probably an ingrown lash or else the mascara i had on the other day might have irritated it. It's been watery and itchy but it doesn't look like pink eye. I'll have to dose it with polysporin when i get home.

Gym after work today, not been since Saturday. She's doing the whole hour in the trainer's room rather than some of the time on the machines today. God knows what methods of torture she's got in store for me!

It's been a quiet week, not much to write about. Nothing in particular in the news. Weather's been spectacular but back to chilly today and tomorrow. Sucks, really. It's 0 degrees when i go to work and going to go up to 9 or 10 by late afternoon. You don't know what to wear! I did two days in my spring coat but it's too chilly this morning and am back to my winter one. They're forecasting a few flurries so i'm not taking any chances. Really can't complain though, we've had an unusually good winter. not much snow, only a short time of really arctic temps. The farmers won't be happy, though. Not enough snow. That means it'll be pretty dry for them unless we get a rainy spring.

Work is flowing along fine. Been going to the gym on schedule. That's going well, too. It's not really getting any easier but then it wouldn't be doing me any good if it wasn't challenging. Next week i'm going to do a whole hour in the trainer's room instead of some of the exercises done on the machines in the main weight room. Can't imagine what torture she'll think up for me there! But i'll have the Easter weekend to recover though i really do need to make time to go to the gym at least once over the long weekend. Well... it's not about making the time as it is getting myself off my chair and going. Maybe i'll see if i can borrow Mom's car for a couple of the days and get some groceries while i'm at it.

Really looking forward to the trip. 37 sleeps until i get there! And really looking forward to Copenhagen. Ibsens Hotel is where we're staying. Seems quite nice and [livejournal.com profile] gramie_dee's friend who lives in the city says it's a nice hotel too. It's also a carbon-neutral hotel so that's a plus. His friend is going to take some time off to show us around, too. Always nice to have a personal contact. He does a web metal radio show as well so that's how he knows G. He wants us to record a few shows while we're there. That should be interesting. They don't play the type of music i'm all that keen on but then if he doesn't like it, he cuts the song off and makes fun of it. If i get to do that, they won't get past the first bar of the vocals :) The instrumental part i don't mind as much but the growly, screamy vocals leave me cold. I just don't get that. I like to be able to make out the lyrics and think that someone somewhat civilized is performing rather than it sounding like a Monsters vs Alien battle going on on stage. ;)))) Even the exceptions are really not as extreme as some of the stuff G. plays on his show. One of my favourites is a Rob Zombie tune Burn Baby Burn. It's growly but you can make it out and it's not a speed-thrash beat but it still kicks ass. Great workout song! I guess you could say that i like my metal "middle of the road" ... so to speak but that's not strictly true, either. :D

Anyway

One other thing i still need to go is book tickets to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang which is playing at the Palace Theatre in Manchester while i'm there. I've been checking but the online booking that gives you the "best available" keeps coming up with front row centre and that's too close to the stage. Last time i checked it was a few rows back so i'll try to book over Easter maybe. I tried calling but couldn't get through. You'd think a ticket booking service would be open on weekends wouldn't you? No voice mail stating times of business, nothing on the website for same. Nobody answering the phones. Couldn't even get through to the theatre on a weekend. Can't remember now what time of day it was but it seemed a reasonable hour that the box office should be open. Graham doesn't have a credit card so it's just easier for me to do the booking for stuff that needs it and get the tickets sent to his address. Anyway, i'll get tickets online before i go. Just need a little patience.

Every year, [livejournal.com profile] gramie_dee and i open our presents with the webcams on so we can see each other opening, and of course, we generally do it a few days before Christmas. He also always writes a song for me and this year's was inspired by ZZ Top, only he calls it GG Top! The song is called Lovin' Long Distance and if you click here you can hear it. Another brilliant tune!! xoxxoxo

He also gave me a dvd, a book and some chocolate and a lovely silver celtic knotwork necklace that sits right at my collarbone
And of course the cd art goes with it! )

Brrr... it's winter! Bloody cold standing in the north wind waiting for busses this afternoon! Carrying a couple of grocery bags, my poor fingers were icy cold when i got home, even though i had gloves on! The first few brisk days are always a shock to the system and lately we've had a few and then some milder ones so it's hard to get used to the cold. I will, more or less. It's a long winter.

Today's 30 days/30 posts topic is "A song that makes you cry or nearly "
Any song that reminds you of a sad time of your life, or of someone that's not in your life anymore that you miss, that song is going to bring back those feelings. Music can be very powerful in that way. We often associate certain songs with events and people. Couples often have an "our song". One summer that the radio seems to be playing one particular song a lot? That will always bring that summer back to you. Sometimes it's not a personal association. Maybe the song represents an event or person unrelated to you but it makes you remember that event or person.

One song that reminds me of someone and what he stood for is Imagine by John Lennon. I was never a big Beatles fan. I liked their music ok but most of it didn't really move me. But Lennon, though he had his faults, stood for peace and non-violence. Yet he died in a very violent manner and Imagine always makes me sad and emotional because of that reason. When i hear it, it brings a lump to my throat. Nearly 4 years ago, i was driving to my mom's house. I was nearing the turn off and that song came on the radio. It was very hard not to cry while i was driving. It was the day after my father died. So now there's two reasons why that song can make me emotional. Now i have a personal association to it as well.

I'd definitely go see them again in a heartbeat!

Before the show we had a lovely dinner at Trapeze which is in the Casino. It's Italian but has other as well and the food was very good, more than plentiful and we had good service. Yesterday was spent doing a few errands in the shops and we took coffee up to Mom's for a visit. Gotta do a bit of laundry today and might try to get together with my friend Tracey if she's free. Going to Mom's tonight to do door duty with the Trick or Treaters.

Blondie... awesome!
Debbie Harry is 64 and bloody hell she looks good or, as Graham said, she's still hot! Must have had work done but even if not, she looks awesome. She's still got that high soaring voice too. She and her band put on a great show at Casino Nova Scotia though it was a bit short for my taste at 1 hour 20 minutes or so. But then, it's the casino, they want you down on the floor gambing, not sitting and watching the show all night. The crowd was mostly middle aged, people that have rocked to her music since the late 70s and after the first few songs, were all on their feet so we pretty much had to as well. The price you pay for sitting up front. (Third row back on the center aisle! She did all my favourites, Rapture, Tide is High, Heart of Glass, One Way Or Another (I'm got getcha), Call Me, Dreaming. There were quite a few i didn't know but it didn't matter, they were all good.

She came out on stage in a red dress, red beret and shades, her hair tied back in a high ponytail. A red sparkly choker around her neck, a sparkly large ring and a silver belt with long dangly bits on it, and the skirt had an uneven shredded hem and had red flats on her feet. Probably the one nod to age lol! She took the hat and shades off after a couple of songs.

Her band including partner (husband?) Chris Stein are tight to my uneducated ears though Graham was noticing a few off notes but then, he's a guitarist and catches these things. More photos to come.

I might have to do my face up all Rawk on Nov. 9. I'll probably bust out the eyeliner if nothing else ;) I was looking to see what concerts or gigs were going to be on in the area for when [livejournal.com profile] gramie_dee is here (arriving tomorrow WOOt!) and came across two that seemed likely to interest him. One i felt duty bound to tell him about, mind you, in return for dragging him to a hockey game in Montreal next week. (!) It's a four band lineup, two i've never heard of but two i have. Megadeth and Slayer (Halifax Metro Centre). The man, he say "O...M....G...!!!!" I take it you want to go, then? lol The other was Blondie (at Casino Nova Scotia) and i knew he liked her/them. He generously contained his excitement (barely) and said i could choose which one to go to. Um, yes, thinks I, but i *do* owe him one for the hockey game, right? I called him from work to discuss the matter further and how could i not get the tickets to the metal gig? I mean, really? But, as i am wont to do, when i went over to the Metro Centre, i decided to get tickets for both!

The metal gig can be an early birthday pressie for him! I'll make sure to have earplugs to take the edge off the decibels and i may like some of it though probably not the Slayer bits. Got excellent seats for Blondie, three rows back from the stage! And if anyone local wants to go, apparently Saturday night is 2 for 1 but we're busy that night.

Holy crap.
See what i'm listening to? Scandiavian band called Diablo Swing Orchestra but it's not like any old "orchestra". It's got swing. It's got operatics. But with a metal kick to it! Jazzy but with crunch and a bite! It's so different! They sent Graham the cd called "Sing Along Songs for the Damned and Delerious" which is their latest. Here's MySpace so you can check out some of their tunes and the fanciful history and origins of the band. It sometimes sounds like the cool Cuba swing sounds of the 30s and 40s, sometimes like a Russian folk song, and then it kicks in and out with the electrics. It's also more than a bit bizarre lol

well that was fun!
I went to the waterfront festival tent yesterday afternoon. For non-Canadians, it's a bank holiday Monday across most of the country and in Halifax, it's the weekend we celebrate the founding of the city so there's concerts and activities for a four day weekend. Yesterday was the "Tribute" band concert, all local talent, all very good. I got there early and got a good seat to watch, camera in hand. First band up was a tribute to the blues with local talent Joe Murphy and the Water Street Blues Band. They are very popular and are a fixture at one of the local pubs on a Saturday, Your Father's Moustache. They played a lot of really traditional blues by greats like Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson etc. and a couple of more modern guys, like (i forget his name) used to be in J. Geils' Band and Stevie Ray Vaughn as well. There was one older man in a blue and white shirt that was up for the first 5 or 6 tunes, each song dancing with a different woman! The man was well into his 70s and is apparently a regular at Joe Murphy's gigs.

The next band up was a Fleetwood Mac tribute. The lead singer, aka "Stevie Nicks" had the look just about right and a similar voice but her vocals were a bit harsher. For all i know, she could sound just like Stevie does before the studio magic is applied, I suppose but it was a bit off for me. Having said that, the band themselves were musically very good.

Next we have Abbey Road, a Beatles cover band. They had the wigs and the suits and the John and Paul guys even had some of the gestures down pretty well. The John guy was a bit incongruous in that he did have glasses, they weren't the little round ones but the period they were representing was before John wore specs on stage. No matter. He was singing with his eyes closed a lot but it didn't look like he was chewing gum like John usually did. Maybe that was more in his later years. The band were really good and sounded a lot like the originals though "Paul" didn't really have the high "Oooooo" bit happenin'. They had a lot of the crowd up on their feet.

Up to this point i was taking pics but other than the blues set, the pics aren't all that good because i was still a bit too far away. When the next band came on, i went up to stand by the stage and quite a few others did too so a lot of those pics are better. They weren't really as dancy. That's Love Gun, the KISS tribute. Ok, no massive amps and no explosive stage show that i saw but they had the costumes and the boots and the makeup and looked the part really well. They cloned the original KISS lineup with Ace and Peter Kriss on drums. Gene's makeup was running down his face after about 5 songs! Apparently after their break, they returned without makeup, Eighties KISS style. I was gone by then to make my bus connections but i really enjoyed what i saw of it. The last band that i missed altogether was an AC/DC tribute. That would have been good, too. I wish they wouldn't take the concerts so late (this one was on until 1 a.m.) on the last night of the long weekend, with most people having to be to work the next day. Pics are here on Flickr and they're on Facebook as well

We have a dancing MacPass. Yes, really! Halifax has two toll bridges, the MacDonald and the MacKay. The pass is a square yellow thingy that is attached to the front centre of the windshield (windscreen) and it's scanned at the toll booths. Your bank account or credit card is then charged for whatever you used that month. We thought the dancing MacPass was er... amusing.
Shortly after that, a coffin drifted by with a flag across the roof and it was followed by the Halifax Goff community. My nephew was a bit "wtf?" but hey, the Goths have Pride too yannow!
The other clip in the vid was a float with everyone playing drums and tom toms.

And the video )

First time wearing my new black shoes. They're tight on one spot on my left foot which is nearly a half size larger than my right one. I'm hoping that wearing them a little at a time will stretch them out. If i'm sitting at my desk most of the time, they won't rub too much and i've brought my sport sandals to wear home if they rub too much. I hate my feet. They've always been wide and always had one larger which made buying shoes a pain but now having a bunion only makes getting cute shoes and sandals even more difficult. I will wear skirts sometimes in summer but you can't wear socks and sneakers with them. Well i suppose you can but it looks dreadful unless you're just commuting on the bus. That's ok as long as you change into shoes or something when you get where you're going. If i ever get rich (*snork*) i'm going to have custom made shoes and sandals. And bras.

God. I went into a fancy bra shop a few weeks ago just to see if they had specialty sizes and what the prices were. They did. The ones that were on sale half off were still 100 dollars! They offered to properly size me. Ok. Why not? But... not a measuring tape in sight. They started with a bra the size i thought i was and went from there, trying various ones on. I don't know who makes their bras but i had three different band sizes on, the largest of which still didn't feel any looser around than the smallest and by the time they had me holstered into the largest size, the cups were like sails on the Bluenose! Practically up to my neck, with the sides up into my armpits. If you're working in a fancy bra shop that purports to be able to sell you any size or order any size, don't you think they should be trained in how to size you the right way? They really didn't seem to know what they were doing, that's for sure. I doubt i'd ever be shopping there anyway, not with the prices of some of the stuff i had on. One was nearly $300! Yes, the material felt really nice but it wasn't any more comfortable on otherwise than the normal ones i wear, which i try to get from Marks and Spencers when i'm away.

The sun is up. That's news, it really is. We haven't woken up to the sun in weeks and even then it's only deigned to show it's face on rare occasions later in the day. It's going to be nice right to the weekend though clouding over again on Sunday. Saturday is the Paul McCartney outdoor concert and also the Highland Games and Scottish Festival. I am not going to the concert, i saw Paul in 2003 at the MEN in Manchester. Good show but i won't spend the $120 again. Seen him once, that's enough. Some people, however, are at the height of excite! AC/DC is playing Moncton. If they'd come to Halifax, i'd have spent the money on that ticket even if i'd seen them before which i haven't. Moncton is 3 hours away and the outdoor venue is outside the city. They do have shuttle busses I believe, to ferry people from the city centre to the venue. It's just a pain. You either have to book a hotel and stay overnight or make the three hour drive back in the wee hours. KISS is playing Halifax next weekend i think but i didn't bother getting tickets for that either though i'm sure it would be a fun show. I like them but i was never a major fan. If someone called and wanted me to go with them or if it was in indoor stadium concert, i might have bothered. I did the outdoor thing for the Stones and while it was great, standing for 5 hours was hard on my back and it rained. I suppose i could spend even more money and buy a ticket for the bleacher seats which is maybe what i would do if it was a band i *really* wanted to see like AC/DC. I"m sure if i was all that bothered, i'd go over to the neighbourhood by the Commons and listen, because you will be able to hear it just fine even if you aren't close enough to see anything.

My niece apparently has the swine flu. She wasn't feeling well and the doctor said she had bronchitis but tested her for H1N1 anyway. She got the word two days later by which time she was already starting to feel better. This whole Swine Flu hype really is over the top. Yes people have died from it, people that have had underlying health problems to start with. Just as many or more probably die from other flu strains. It is a worry, though, because we were at my aunt and uncle's cottage on the weekend and my uncle does have heath problems so they'll be keeing a close eye on him in case he does catch it. His immune system is shot to hell.

God i don't half go on sometimes.

I'm just going to finish my cuppa and read the paper.

[livejournal.com profile] gramie_dee is going to be a guest on a radio station out of Wythenshaw near Manchester tonight (starting now, actually!!!) if you want to have a listen. Go here and click on "Listen Now". You can even send a message using a form on that pop  up page.  The show is called the Legacy of Rock, music from the 70s to now and yes, much of it's metal as you might expect.

Another big outdoor concert on the Halifax Commons this summer, headlined by KISS! I don't know if i'll go mainly because of the outdoor venue. The Stones were great but it rained and was very soggy. don't know who else will be on the ticket either. THey're saying there will be four other "major" acts. How much you wanna bet Sloan is one of them? They always seem to open for these things. I suppose i'll wait to see who else is going before i decide, and if i can find someone to go with me as well. I'm sure the show will be good but it's a long day standing. Let's face it, after the bands start, nobody's going to be sitting down when there's moshing and dancing to be done. Maybe i'm just getting too old for this lol

I'm also annoyed. When i got home from work yesterday our walkway to the building wasn't shovelled. It snowed all day and there was lots of time to at least do it once. This morning? Still not shovelled and there is a layer of freezing rain over top of it now. There was a guy on crutches waiting in the lobby for a ride. Heaven knows how he made out. It's not the first time either, that snow removal was late or lacking in promptness. One older man takes care of both buildings. I've complained before. Doesn't seem to do any good.
tvordlj: (Christmas Santa Reindeer)
Crap. Well my Christmassy lunch is off. My friend can't get her car out of the driveway due to the snow and the snow blower is broken. I still had to go out though, over to the corner shop, as i was out of milk and it's pretty nippy out there. -10 with a windchill of -18. The corner shop has a doorbell type sound that goes off when you open the door but today, it chimed a Christmas tune, Jingle Bells i think it was. :) I think it plays from a random selection so the staff won't go insane with all the same tune playing all day.

Speaking of tunes, am still listening to and loving Travellin Wings, the song [livejournal.com profile] gramie_dee wrote me this year. He really is the best fiance!

Many of my flist have already scattered for their holidays but to those of you that are still reading, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays! I know 2008 was not a great year for many of you and it's certainly had it's ups and downs for me, too. We've lost people close to us but we've also welcomed new babies into our lives and that's the way of it, isn't it? We always look forward but keep our memories in our hearts. I firmly believe the spirits of our passed loved ones are never far away and there are signs. There really are. You just have to look for them.

So anyway, the presents are packed and my backpack is filled. I just have to do some laundry later on for a couple of things i need. Will head to Moms tomorrow afternoon. We may be getting more snow or rain or both or none by tomorrow night. A white Christmas is nice if we can get it, but not too much that the driving is horrible and people get stranded which is what's happening. Toronto has had planes grounded since the weekend after a storm and they're looking at another one. Theirs don't turn to rain, they just get more and more of the white stuff. When Toronto planes are down, everyone else is down since that's a major transfer point.

Ok, i've done enough rambling.
T'ra, see you on the other side.

Yes, i have my Christmas song! Apparently it was inspired after we watched O Brother Where Are Thou earlier this fall. He's had his good friend Malc contribute mandolin and banjo and backing vocals and the result had me in fits! IT's really really good, mind you, but i never thought i'd live to see the day when he'd write a country type song! And the band? Howlin Gram Coyote and Cactus Mal! Howlin Gram was the brewer upper and Cactus Mal was the random button presser. If you want to hear it, go to my web page and play the first tune on the little red flash juke a little way down the page. It's called Travellin' Wings

...In a "oh isn't this a typical Monday" sort of way.
Actually it wasn't typical Monday but if it was going to happen, it *would* be a Monday. Walked into Tim Horton's to get some tea and a bagel and the fire alarms started going off in the building (Tim's is in the main court area of a complex with a food court, small shopping area, two office towers (plus another one and a hotel at the other end). That means we likely wouldn't be able to go up to the office in the elevators and it meant that the gym ejected all the early morning keeners as well. So they're all standing around, most still wearing shorts, (it's -4 out this morning!) waiting to see if we have to evacuate the building while they investigate the alarm, and three burly firemen carrying full gear, hoses and stuff purposefully stride by. Well that wasn't such a bad thing to see on a Monday morning ;) Turns out to be a false alarm as per usual. In 20 years in this building i think i've only been evacuated twice that wasn't a pre-arranged drill and even then, it wasn't a proper fire or anything.

I did very little yesterday, feeling a bit off. I napped in the afternoon and felt better and i'm fine today. Saturday i went out with Mom who was looking to buy some sweatshirts, the kind with fleece inside. It's very difficult to get them these days in the shops. It's either all fleece inside and out, or the inside of the fabric that the "sweatshirts" are made of is just a woven texture. I find those quite comfy but she wanted something warmer. So she didn't find anything and i spent 2/3 of the overtime i earned working on the municipal election! I bought a couple of tshirts, two tops and two pairs of pants and something for [livejournal.com profile] gramie_dee's birthday later this month. The pants i'm wearing today are nice and long, too and the top is as well. It's difficult to find tops that are longer length with long arm length too and the pants seem nice and long as well. Hopefully nothing will shrink too much in the wash. I always forget after the first few times, to take out things that i don't want to shrink and hang them to dry.

Got a few things to do this week. There's a meeting tonight for the committee that organizes the local Corrie events. We're definitely hosting a Corrie actor next year on March 31 but we don't know who yet. We're getting things started now though, booking the venue and making plans. I have to make a doctor's appointment this week and we have the Unitied Way kickoff on Wednesday. It's a "county fair" theme and i'm helping out on DJ services. Since it's the theme that it is, the order of the day is country music. My manager is co-chair and he's made some cds of more recent country so i downloaded some older stuff and a bit of new stuff for a mix. Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Tammy Wynette, Faith Hill, George Canyon (doing a Johnny Cash tune), that sort of thing.

In the process of gathering that together, i came across a Johnny Cash cover of a Soundgarden song! Er... what was it called.... Rusty Cage, that's it. Now i don't really know Soundgarden's music so i d/l that one of theirs and compared it. Let's just say Johnny Cash pisses all over Soundgarden and leave it at that, shall we? No surprise there. Johnny does a cover in NIN's Hurt too, which i've heard before. Found the video on Youtube. It must have been one of the last things he recorded, he looked pretty shaky but man, that voice was still there and you know, he really made that song mean something. He's lived it. You can hear it in his voice and see it in his face.

[livejournal.com profile] grammardog posted this and it made me feel good. It's a light pop song by Mika called Big Girls (You are Beautiful) and we don't get songs like this too often. It shall be added to my favourite list along with Fat Bottom Girls by Queen :)

In other news, the sun is out but it doesn't look like it's going to stay around. Still. First glimpse this whole weekend and today's a holiday Monday here. The city is celebrating its birthday and the fireworks have been put off two nights already. Not that I'll probably go. Fireworks here only last about 10 minutes. Hardly seems worth it. What is kind of cool, though, is they set up a fireworks "waterfall" off the bridge over the harbour.

Unfortunately I did not manage to get Elton tickets. I couldn't even get logged into My Account! That could have been because of the firewall i guess. Almost immediately tickets went up for sale on Kijiji for at least double the purchase price. I really really think that's distasteful. People are buying tickets purely to resell them and people that really want to see the concert lose out unless they pay scalper type prices. All the ads i saw were reselling for at least $300 to $350 per ticket other than "make me an offer" and you know they won't accept less than double. i saw one set of seats on the floor for about 1300 or so! I like the man, but not that much! I'd pay asking price or maybe a little more but i won't go double that's for sure.
