Well that was fun

...In a "oh isn't this a typical Monday" sort of way.
Actually it wasn't typical Monday but if it was going to happen, it *would* be a Monday. Walked into Tim Horton's to get some tea and a bagel and the fire alarms started going off in the building (Tim's is in the main court area of a complex with a food court, small shopping area, two office towers (plus another one and a hotel at the other end). That means we likely wouldn't be able to go up to the office in the elevators and it meant that the gym ejected all the early morning keeners as well. So they're all standing around, most still wearing shorts, (it's -4 out this morning!) waiting to see if we have to evacuate the building while they investigate the alarm, and three burly firemen carrying full gear, hoses and stuff purposefully stride by. Well that wasn't such a bad thing to see on a Monday morning ;) Turns out to be a false alarm as per usual. In 20 years in this building i think i've only been evacuated twice that wasn't a pre-arranged drill and even then, it wasn't a proper fire or anything.
I did very little yesterday, feeling a bit off. I napped in the afternoon and felt better and i'm fine today. Saturday i went out with Mom who was looking to buy some sweatshirts, the kind with fleece inside. It's very difficult to get them these days in the shops. It's either all fleece inside and out, or the inside of the fabric that the "sweatshirts" are made of is just a woven texture. I find those quite comfy but she wanted something warmer. So she didn't find anything and i spent 2/3 of the overtime i earned working on the municipal election! I bought a couple of tshirts, two tops and two pairs of pants and something for
gramie_dee's birthday later this month. The pants i'm wearing today are nice and long, too and the top is as well. It's difficult to find tops that are longer length with long arm length too and the pants seem nice and long as well. Hopefully nothing will shrink too much in the wash. I always forget after the first few times, to take out things that i don't want to shrink and hang them to dry.
Got a few things to do this week. There's a meeting tonight for the committee that organizes the local Corrie events. We're definitely hosting a Corrie actor next year on March 31 but we don't know who yet. We're getting things started now though, booking the venue and making plans. I have to make a doctor's appointment this week and we have the Unitied Way kickoff on Wednesday. It's a "county fair" theme and i'm helping out on DJ services. Since it's the theme that it is, the order of the day is country music. My manager is co-chair and he's made some cds of more recent country so i downloaded some older stuff and a bit of new stuff for a mix. Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Tammy Wynette, Faith Hill, George Canyon (doing a Johnny Cash tune), that sort of thing.
In the process of gathering that together, i came across a Johnny Cash cover of a Soundgarden song! Er... what was it called.... Rusty Cage, that's it. Now i don't really know Soundgarden's music so i d/l that one of theirs and compared it. Let's just say Johnny Cash pisses all over Soundgarden and leave it at that, shall we? No surprise there. Johnny does a cover in NIN's Hurt too, which i've heard before. Found the video on Youtube. It must have been one of the last things he recorded, he looked pretty shaky but man, that voice was still there and you know, he really made that song mean something. He's lived it. You can hear it in his voice and see it in his face.
