I noticed that one of the little rubber ear bud thingies came off my wireless headset the other day and i can't find it. I carry it in my big tote bag and i figured it just came off in there but i emptied that out and it's gone. The metal of the raw ear thingy is a bit annoying so i went to The Source to see if they had any replacement ones. Nope. The only ones they carry are for other types of earphones and have a bit of rubber up the middle making it impossible to stick on to the style i have. I even tried turning it inside out so it makes a funnel shape into my ear but it doesn't fit tightly. I'd have to glue it on. Next step...eBay and Lo and Behold... there were replacement bits for the exact model of headset! Yay! I bought three pairs at 3.99 each so at least the 7.95 delivery charge was less than the total bill! I can't really complain. It does cost more and more to mail even small packages these days! For 20 dollars total in Canadian funds, i'll get three sets so i'll have spares if i lose any more. EBay is great for things like that, replacement parts and batteries for various things.

I got the post office card for what is very likely my new passport. I wish i could find the old one only for my peace of mind. I can't believe i would have accidentally thrown it out so it has to be in this apartment somewhere. St. Anthony, patron Saint of lost things might be an avenue! While i'm convinced there are Travel Gods and Luggage Gods, I'm not really sure if there are Lost Things Gods.

Toronto looms in the offing, I'll be flying up there to meet [livejournal.com profile] gramie_dee in 18 sleeps. A Corrie ping with local friends and a day trip to Niagara Falls and we'll probably be hooking up with an internet friend of his as well if schedules can be coordinated. Next spring when i come over to the UK it looks like we're going to spend some time in Cornwall. Any suggestions for hotels, things to do or things to avoid entirely welcome!

Don't bother with Lands End. St Michael's Mount looks pretty but has a bit of a depressing aura about it. Newquay is a tourist trap in a bad way, nothing like the rest of Cornwall as it's quite rough and full of people too drunk to walk properly falling off cliffs.

On the plus side, places like the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan are always lovely. The Lizard Peninsula (and Kynance Cove, which is a beach with serpentine stones) is very nice, and includes Goonhilly which is a satellite earth station you can take a tour round. Truro is a very pleasant city to go shopping in. For the typical "quaint" Cornish village experience you could do worse than Padstow, which Rick Stein trashed turned from the town I lived near for 5 years as an infant into a tourist resort. St. Ives is lovely too, the light is particularly beautiful and of course the Tate is down there!

No suggestions on hotels as I've never needed them! ;-)

Thanks! I kind of had the same feeling about Land's End. I believe there's a secluded point nearby that's much better without all the tat. That satellite station sounds very cool though. Something different. Padstow. right. I do want to see some of the little villages on the coves. We might try to get up to Tintagel though i don't know if i will be up to the climb. I have heard good things about St. Ives too!

Places like Mousehole might be nicer for the whole small village feel.. Padstow is more of a town. Cadgwith on the Lizard is very nice too and less touristy. The Minack Theatre is definitely worth a trip, before I forget - even if you're not seeing anything there it's an impressive amphitheatre, and Porthcurno nearby is a nice beach - with links to Marconi and cables under the ocean.

I've never been to Tintagel! Apparently it's very touristy, with things like "King Arthur's Car Park" and stuff, but that doesn't mean it might not be fun!

The Tintagel ruins might be interesting though i know they're up quite a hike so we'll have to see if the gym has any better results between now and then! Good suggestions about the other towns, thanks!

Plenty of time to sort out your plans and see how you feel! :-)

My Cornwall memories are 40 years old, but Tintagel, St. Ives and Mousehole would definitely get my vote. And yes, Land's End was a huge disappointment even then. Can't imagine any "improvements" since would have made much difference! Really the only reason to go there is to say you've been there.

Agreed on Lands End. And if Land's End was a disappointment 40 years ago it must be a complete nightmare now!
