There seemed to be a bit of excitement outside my place last night. I was in bed reading about 10 o'clock and i heard this really big crash outside in the parking lot. I thought, i'm quite glad i don't have a car out there tonight. I got up to look out to see which car must have backed into another one though it seemed a bit loud for that. Didn't see anything at first but at the back end of the lot i could see a car with lights on and though it was a bit dark back there, it seemed like that's where the accident happened. People started coming out to help and i realized it was more than just someone backing into another car. There's a street behind my house and it comes down a bit of a hill then turns and it looks like someone must have come down that hill, though it's not that steep, and missed the turn, went over the curb and down the little embankment into the parking lot/building/another car. I could hear someone telling the driver to stay put and someone else called 911 so i timed them. 6 minutes until arrival of the emergency vehicles. I didn't look outside to see what all came though i think perhaps a firetruck came as well as ambulance. They often will send one in case the car catches fire or they need the jaws of life to get someone out though this crash didn't seem that bad.

Good thing the hill or the embankment wasn't steeper or higher or the car might have flipped. As it was i think they must have been going a bit faster than they should have been judging from the sound of the impact. Perhaps unfamiliar with the road and not realizing it turned a bit sharply or else could have been drinking. I didn't hear brakes squeal before the crash. It was the better part of the hour before all the vehicle noise died down. Again, i didn't bother looking but i imagine the car was towed away as well as the emergency vehicle noise. Looking this morning, there's a bit of debris there, maybe a bumper but i can't tell and the grass between the lot and the building has a dirt "scar" the width of a tire from the curb right to the wall of the foundation of the building. There's a bicycle thingy thrown off to one side, those things you can park your bike in that can hold several of them, so that was knocked out of the way i guess. Looks to be some damage to the side of the big outdoor air vent to the inside parking garage too.

Surprised, in "ultra-safety-minded" Canada that there are no crash barriers on that kerb, if it's even remotely possible to go over it and down an embankment.

we're a quiet little neighbourhood, and the street isn't a busy one, not a main thoroughfare. I wonder if they will put up one now though. I've lived here a long time and that's the first time i've seen that happen, at least that i've been witness to.
