I may have forgotten to mention my mouse.
Oh yes.
I came into the kitchen one morning almost 2 weeks ago and saw the little bugger scurry in behind the oven.
I never knew i could scream like that.
I'm not afraid of them, it just startled me. A lot.
I called the superintendent who said he couldn't get hold of the guy with the traps until Monday (this was a Friday). All weekend i slept with the kitchen doors shut and the light in the kitchen on. I guess i figured they might only be braver to come out in the dark. Never mind.
So they brought those sticky traps on the Monday and laid them in the kitchen and a couple other places along the walls.
And they really are sticky. I had to pull them off the broom once or twice when it only barely brushed it. And a grocery receipt remaind firmly attached.
I got up yesterday morning to find a struggling little mousie on one of them. I didn't screech this time but i did gasp heartily. Again, just startled.
But as it was alive i wasn't going near it. I called the super and asked his wife to send him over. She said i could just pick up the trap and put the whole thing in the garbage. No. I'm not having a wiggling mouse in my garbage, thank you. She was surprised it was alive. I don't know why. It's not the kind that snaps over and kills them. They just get stuck. I'm sure they can live quite awhile before they starve to death. In any case, it might have only just got stuck just before i got up, who knows.
It was gone when i got home. I asked to keep the rest of the traps just in case there are more.

How did it get in? Hard to say. I do leave the door open when i go to the laundry which is very close so it could have come in from the hallway. I've lived here a very long time and have never seen any inside before so i don't think there are holes in the walls. There is all that construction going on around the building so i'm sure their nests are all disturbed and they've come inside for shelter. I do have a hole in the ceiling where a light fixture used to be and i now wonder if he fell out of that. I guess i better get some filler and close that up.

Not very humane, those traps, are they? Put it in the garbage and let it starve to death in the dark? Yuk. I guess pest controllers figure "it's just a mouse." Hmph.
