So after i "purled" the thumb on my first mitten, I made the second one and though it was supposed to be a "left" mitten and the first one was a "right", both were exactly the same. Lefties. I did figure out what i'd done wrong for the thumb, and managed to knit it rather than purl it but why were the thumbs both on the same side? Hmm... I examined the pattern again and i realized that i'd taken the "last" 14 stitches to mean the ones to the end of the row rather than the most recent 14 i had just knit, those between a V shaped "gusset". Crap. I ended up unraveling that mitten to the gusset and doing it right. It looks much better but i'm not faffing around with the first one i made because there are a few other mistakes in it too. I'm knitting a third mitten and i will be able to do it right. Then i have to knit the ears to put on it and embroider on the eyes and noses. :) She's gonna love it!

Visited another friend on Tuesday who lives a 10 minute walk away and Wednesday I went to the mall for a walk around Target and a latte at Starbucks. The Target store seems quite nice, with prices about the same range as Zellers used to have. Not Walmart cheap but not a lot more either. They also have a little "escalator" beside the main ones that pulls the shopping cart up to the second floor, it hooks into a rod on the underside of the cart. Pretty cool. I also got some nice loose teas at David's tea, a fruit flavoured black tea and a pumpkin spice chai tea which will be nice for lattes.

Doctor's appointment yesterday. She said the little part of the incision that had opened was almost closed. I could tell as it was draining a lot less. She would have had me back in 2 weeks but I'm seeing the surgeon on the 30th for the 6 week check so she thought he would be just as good to check that and if it wasn't quite closed, i could go see her 2 weeks after that. I think it will be fine by then. Pretty soon I think i'll have to start thinking about scheduling a massage and chiro adjustment. I have to see if i will be able to lay on my stomach for the massage, though. The adjustment needs the same but you're only lying down for a few minutes. I'm quite pleased that my back has held up though all this because lying on my back all the time was hard on it. Now i can lay on my sides for a bit and that helps a lot. There are still aches and pains and pulling and heaviness but it's not too bad. I'm aware of it but it's not so restrictive as it was.

15 sleeps until Graham gets here!

Glad things are still moving forward.

I sew rather than knit, which for some reason has always struck me as miles more complicated, whereas sewing, you just stick two bits of fabric together then stitch them, right?! :-)

I have sewn, too. I was never all that good at it, i thought. Everyone else said what I made looked nice but i knew it was a bit crooked here or a bit bunched there. I sewed tops, blouses, dresses, but never pants (trousers). Too fussy to fit. I used to knit years ago, only doing a few things now but i doubt I'll keep it up. I did cross stitch for years but ended up with loads of finished things that i never framed or did much with other than a handful and some others that i gave away for gifts. Once i started spending more time on the computer, that kind of went up the spout. I did oil painting too but it's the same thing, all these finished canvasses doing nothing but gathering dust. I did think i might do one or two while home but haven't yet. I think i'll need to get new paints. I haven't used mine in ages so i'm sure most of them are all dried up!
