Feb. 3rd, 2016 07:11 pmOn the countdown to the UK trip. It's hard to believe in two months G. will be living here! It's going to be an adjustment for both of us but for him moreso. He's decided to focus on his artwork and he can sell it online or at a local market and can take commissions, too. He's already had one commission for a friend of my mother's for a cartoon for one featuring all her grandchildren, as a gift for the parents of the kids.
We thought we'd each bring a guitar back on the plane with us but it looks like it might not work out. Air Canada's website says you can bring instruments on board if they fit in the overhead bins. They don't guarantee there will be space in any of the small closets and we don't want to get stuck at the airport if they won't take the guitars. They don't have hard cases so we can't check them. I think we'll have to let his friend take temporary custody until we can get cases for them and ship them later. He's already got the cases for his electric and bass guitars and will ship them before he comes over. We can send is friend the money for all that later on for the other two. On the plus side, we'll probably be able to take his violin on board because it's much smaller, has a case and will fit in the overhead bin. He was concerned about that, too. He doesn't really play it but it was given to him by his mother, I think. One of the acoustic guitars was hers as well.
He'll have two large suitcases but since I'm only planning on bringing my carry on, I can take one back as "mine" rather than pay the 50 dollar fee for him to check a second bag! He will be sending a few boxes of other things as well, either by mail or by the same shipping company as the guitars. I think that's what I'd do, pay the lot and have done with it. On this end, I, or we, can get the stuff at the airport when it arrives. I think they charge a hefty fee to deliver it to the door. Mom won't mind lending the car for us to go fetch it all. He's got a lot to do. It'll either get done or it won't. He does work best under a deadline! Me, I'd have been down to the bare bones by now, sorting, tossing and shipping stuff since last year!
