Feb. 24th, 2016 10:56 amGotta put in a plug for Canada Post. A good thing for a change! They are often slow at getting things delivered and are expensive, too. But they have a newish service where you can divert delivery to a post office other than the one designated as your "home" PO pickup place. The service is called FlexDelivery and it works really well. You register for the service and you then find the details for the post office you want your items delivered to. It goes by a PO box so the website (and i think it only applies to websites) that you're ordering from has to accept PO box numbers. Not all of them do. You can have it delivered anywhere in Canada, too, so you can (probably) set it up to have something delivered to friends or family but you need to make sure their name and email is on the contact form for that I would imagine. When the package arrives at the post office, they email you and you print it and pick up the parcel, showing ID.
I have the information for the post office in my office building on my phone and it's also saved in a couple of websites where I order regularly, as one of the alternative shipping addresses. It's a great idea and I find it so convenient! I might complain about Canada Post but this is one thing they've done recently that is definitely worth using. Now, if they could just lower the postal costs!
I'm sure it's a vicious circle. People are using the "snail" mail less and less so they put the price of stamps and parcels up more and more to make up for it. The more they increase the price, the less people use it. Parcel shipping costs are shocking. It cost me 20 dollars to send a magazine to the UK!
