Recipe for Molasses cookies
Jul. 19th, 2003 05:49 pmWho was it that had the grandmother that used to make soft molasses cookies like my Gram did? I said i'd dig out the recipe anyway....
1 cup molasses
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup shortening
2/3 cup warm water with 3 tsp. baking soda
2 eggs
1 tsp cream of tartar
4 cups flour
1/2 tsp each allspice and salt
Mix sugar and shortening (cream together). Add water, molasses and eggs then add the dry ingredients. Put in fridge overnight. Roll out to about 1/4 inch thick and cut in circles. Place on cookie sheet and bake 8-10 minutes in 325 degree oven. According to a chart i found, that would be 160 centigrade or gas mark 3.
For those in Canada or at least in the East, the Superstore has Farmer's Market Ultimate Molasses Spice Cookies that are really good though a lot more gingery than the soft molasses cookies.
