Am home today. Made hot lemon and honey last night, took a spoonful of honey before bed and a few bufferin. Slept through until about 4:30 or 5 but not well after that so got up about 6:30 and read the paper and here i am faffing around the computer. It's muggy in the apartment, i think that's part of why i wasn't able to get back to sleep. But i'm home today so i can take a nap later on. Seem to have more of a voice today than yesterday and my vocal chords don't ache. Have a sneezy nose and a cough but it's *not* a wheeze, Mum! just cold "stuff". (i really hate the word 'phflegm' it just grosses me out!) I'll check back with you all later.

*chuckle* well... it's really just a more polite and actually far more fun word for another f-word. Faffing around .... playing around, pottering about, doing a little of this and that, etc.

Well! I didn't know "faffing" was a substitute for 'the other word'! My father used to say that all the time "Stop faffing around, you kids, and get ON with it!" I love many of the Brit expressions. My mum used to say someone "got up her nose" if they bothered her, and when I was little, I used to try to imagine that LOL.

Well i don't know for sure that it is but i always assumed so. But it means it in a sort of general, puttering about sense not in a vindictive way. You would never say "you're faffing with me" if you see what i mean. So may be my assumption was wrong but i love the word and i love so many British expressions! Most of the ones i know are of course "Lanky" from Corrie but many are as well general British. And having quite a few British and Scottish and Irish friends, i get some of the more recent slang too. One comes to mind..if something is bad, it's rubbish or it's pants. And "Pants" might not even be the most current word for it anymore LOL

I remember some discussion a while ago about calling someone a "blouse" :))) That must be Irish - Tim says the Irish programmer at work calls folks that in jest.

Big Girl's Blouse.. apparently, so an Irish friend told me, it comes from a British television Comedienne from the late 60's. it was one of her expressions. A similar "insult" would be to call a man a "big Jessie"... Bet Lynch used to use both of them i think. Norris Cole is definitely either. LOL!
