The Irish Ship
Aug. 26th, 2003 01:28 pmOh i didn't miss the ship after all. It's docking in Halifax on Friday. She's called the Jeanie Johnston and she's in port all weekend, open to the public Saturday and Sunday. The interesting thing about her is that she never had one passenger die during 1848 - 55 over 16 voyages she transported over 2500 refugees from the Irish Potato famine in the mid 1800's. She later sank at sea with a load of non-human cargo. The original was built in Quebec but this one is of course a replica built in Ireland. I'll be going over to check it out for sure on the weekend :)
