Yep that's me. I 'd love to be neat and tidy, i'd love to be super spick and span clean all the time. Apartment should look like i had a professional cleaner and ready for inspection by anyone.

It doesn't and i'm not. Oh yes of course i feel accomplished when it's clean and tidy. But it doesn't last for long. Someone actually *lives* here you see. My mother despaired of my bedroom at home. By the time i was a teenager i basically just kept the door shut on it lol! Now living on my own with nobody else to care about it but me, i figure, i *should* be more diligent but it's just not in my nature. Thus, my nest is generally always in some state of disorder in one room or another. Dust bunnies gather up arms to rebel against the Hoover, a dress lies over a rocking chair, the arm of which looks like someone's knee in the skirt of it. It's been there 2 weeks because i mean to have it hemmed but haven't called the woman that i hope will do it for me. There are atlasses on the dining room table because the bookshelf is nearly heaving with books, video tapes and photo albums. The coffee table is an assortment of odds and ends... tweezers and mirror because i can't pluck my eyebrows in any light but the bright daylight, nail polish, crazy glue for fixing a cup which is now in the cupboard, eyeglass cleaner cloth, video tape, magazines and remote controls, a couple of sets of photo negatives... that's just on the top. Underneath on the shelf... oh we won't go there.

Well today the kitchen is sort of tidied up a bit. The jar of change has been rolled into tidy coin rolls as much as possible (they're standing along the back of the countertop). The bathroom surfaces are scrubbed and i did three loads of laundry including a load of sheets and towels and the bedding has been changed as well. The dishes were done the other night and put away so there's on ly a few cups and glasses in the sink now. (I only rinse off the dishes and then do them when there's enough for a sinkful since i don't properly cook for myself as often as i should!) I actually ironed most of the stuff on the end of the ironing board last weekend and I even ran the vaccuum the other day. But the oven needs cleaning badly and the dust on the end table will soon be is whirling into little tumbleweeds.

Nobody likes housework thought there are a few jobs i don't mind doing. I used to love to hang out clothes on the line when i had one. I don't mind doing the laundry but then i iron as little as possible. Cleaning the oven is probably the worst job there is. I admit to being a lazy housekeeper. I figure if i can stand looking at it, there isn't anyone else to complain about it anyway. Then sometimes i'll take a fit of ambition and strip out all the closets and drawers or clean the refrigerator inside and out.

My nest is comfortable. It looks like someone lives here.

Ahhhh, you struck a chord with this one, Tvor. I'd *like* to be neat but oh my, I get so easily distracted and there are so many more interesting things to do. When it gets to looking as if TEN people live here, then it's time to get out the shovel. :))

Do you do this? Right after you have done a "big clean", you are very careful for the next few days, to put things away, and to keep things tidy. Alas, gradually the rot sets in and you relapse to your "real self" and the cycle repeats itself ;-)

By the way, my ex-sister-in-law LOVED to clean! So there are some.

Oh of course. But then there's the "clean floor curse" too. WAsh the floor, drop something messy on it within a day. It's like wearing a brand new white top! I do know a few people that love to clean. THey need help desparately ;)))

Once upon a time, when my kids were little, my folks dropped in for a visit. The house was a horrendous mess. My mother was not in a great mood that day and I heard her muttering the words "pig sty" under her breath. My father raised an eyebrow and whispered to me "She has a VERY short memory!" :)) Perhaps it's heredity, although my son is and always has been very tidy. He sure didn't get that from me!

*glances at coffee table*
Here's what I can see.....
deck of cards, hammer, junk mail, knitting needles and yarn, 2 pens, pencil, nailpolish, packing tape, paperback, insurance info, ashtray, remote, nailclippers, pictures.
Hmmm, and I can actually see part of the table too. :))
