There are still loads of people that don't have power and it's getting frustrating for them. There is just soooo much to clean up and untangling the trees from the wires takes care and time. They showed an aerial photo of Point Pleasant Park, a natural forest park at the south end of the city and it looks like someone just stepped on it. it will take a century to regrow all those trees. I do know though, that the park was infested by a longhorn beetle and a lot of the trees are very old and there were a number with those disease huge bulges so i think a lot of the trees there were probably weakened to begin with.

I'm still struggling with my back. It just seems to get to a point and not get any better and it's tiring, wearing, frustrating and discouraging.

Being in constant pain can really grind ya down, can't it? Are you still taking painkillers/anti-inflammatories?

My daughter's best friends family, live on Ritcey Court, and they have like a 2 acre lot with loads of flattened trees, and they got told, on top of everything else, that they cannot even get rid of their fallen trees yet, as the trees are infested with the beetle !!

Would seeing another chiropractor/physio help ???

Sometimes a different person has newer/different perspectives and if the usual routine of treatments is not working, would something/someone different help ??

Something to note (in the "you just never know" category of life) I got told to take extra calcium. Mm-hmm, for my backache ?? I looked at them like they had 2 heads.

They told me that calcium deficiency in a person will often lead to muscle spasms. Yeah. I was floored. And have been on calcium every since (esp since I'm not a milk drinker.. cheese yes, yogurt on occasion, same for ice-creams) but not milk.

Oh that makes sense! I've had muscle spasms in my legs before, from supposed lack of calcium. I'm like you - don't drink milk but eat some cheese and yogurt and icecream. Guess I had better start eating a calcium supplement too.

The chiro did recommend that to me, a calcium magnesium supplement but it was for blood pressure. I took a couple but i thought i better ask my doctor first in case of adverse affects on my liver. I see her tomorrow aft. And i don't drink milk so i'm sure it could be beneficial anyway.

You're definitely better off checking for sure, but if you do take it, might be worth your while to take a good one, as some brand names are not worth the money you spend on them, and have to be in the right dosages etc... I've been told many times that the "organika" brand name (in health food stores only), that has calcium, magnesium and.. oh shoot, a third one, so that it is absorbed fully in your body. Taking calcium (without the other two) is a total waste of money. See what your doc says, and do some internet research too.

Makes sypathetic mewing noises about both back and trees.

Flattened trees make a place look naked don't they, like a person who's had their head shaved for an op, or a house stripped for moving. Brighton looked like that after our hurricane, and there were not that many trees to start with.

As for back- let me second the calcium thing, because quite apart from muscle spasms and present problems, osteoporosis can creep up on you, and that *will* give you back ache!
Also a friend I met up with Italy told me about a therapy that she had been recommended while living in Paris, which has banished all her back problems, even tho' she's since had a baby. It's a thing you can practice by yourself, like Alexander Technique.
I was going to email her for details to pass on to my son, and when I do I will let you know too.

That would be great, thanks! I just need to clear the supplement with my doc first because of the liver stuff.

I would be very interested in this too, if you don't mind, expecially after the last two weeks :))

OK then, I will make an effort to email Leonie and get back to you both- mind you, it may only be the name of the technique!
Meanwhile hope you both feel better soon :-)

I saved this request in my inbox to reply to when I got the information from Leonie.
Umm; afraid I still haven't, but am pursuing it, and will let you have it asap, - if it's still relevant.
I apologise- indeed I grovel.
And I haven't done the exercises either - o dear!

Oh it's always relevant. I've been taking glucosamine sulfate for a couple of months and though i'm feeling pretty good, it could also be a combination of that and lower back exercises that i've also been doing for about a month or 6 weeks, not as regularly this past week or two as i was but i'm also starting back at the gym so getting exercise there too. have increased my calcium intake sporadically but getting better at it. Can't tell if it's helping but it's bound to make a difference with my bones anyway.
