tvordlj: (Sleepy lazy cats)
I'm all alone in my cell today. Two of the lads are on vacation and the other is out sick.

My connection at home this morning was dreadful. I thought it was just LJ and/or Yahoo but they're both working fine from the office. Ah well.

Seems like more than a few of my friends, on LJ and in person have had a good year as far as their personal lives go. Three of us here in the office have started new relationships and at least three on my flist have landed on their feet in lurve as well, that i know of. Several LJ'rs are engaged, too which is very cool and one is getting married on New Year's Day and another got married a few months ago. (Haven't seen her on lj since. i wonder if that's a good sign or a bad one!) there have been a couple of broken hearts but seeing the others find happiness should be encouraging to them, i hope.

And on the non-romance front, one of my cell mates and his wife are in the process of being cleared to adopt two small children from an orphanage in Brazil. They are still in the approval process so far, they don't have any two children in particular yet, they need to go through a lot of interviews and approvals first. She is from Brazil and her sister is a lawyer there so is facilitating this. They will have to go to Brazil and live there for 6 weeks before they can bring the children home. They want siblings obviously and will be buying a house in the spring for their new family. They figure it might not be until the fall that it all falls into place but they don't really know. It could come up quite quickly or it could drag on a bit. Foreign adoptions are rife with paperwork but from all accounts, very fulfilling. Quite exciting for them really!

Indulging in a pedicure today at lunchtime. Brought sandals to wear back to the office so as not to wreck the polish. Nice thing about working in a tower complex above a small indoor shopping center (i can't really call it a mall anymore, because it's really too small now.) is that there are many services you can reach without going outdoors. The downtown of Halifax has a series of buildings and hotels that are connected by over the street walkways, or "pedways" as we call them. My dentist, hair stylist, chiropractor are all within the connected buildings and there are several places i can go for spa services. The only thing missing is a grocery store. There used to be a small market but it shut a few years ago. I think there's a small convenience store over in one of the other buildings but it's mostly milk, pop, juice, junk food and i think a few videos for rent. I think you can get bread and a few staples in the drugstore but that's it. There's a large grocery store about a 20 minute walk down the road though.

Get some work done, Diane.
