If you use Mozilla for a browser, there's a neat add-on that you can use to make LJ icons from any photo on the net. You install the plug in, then restart Mozilla. Right click on the photo and either create the icon instantly or with options where you can crop and add text. The icon on this post was made with it. Very useful.

Still working on a painting for [livejournal.com profile] gramie_dee's dad for Christmas of a few older buildings along the Irwell. Nearly done. Graham took some photos for me and this is the view (without the thumb on the right of course!). And naturally since it's a present i'm fussing over it even more than usual.

Want to walk to the mall today but i also thought i might go out to Pennington's as well from there. There might still be some stuff left from the summer sales.

My kitchen now has a fully functioning overhead light Praise Be to the Ex Superintendant! :D My dad put in a fluorescent light for me years ago and any time a tube goes, he usually comes over and fixes it for me, mainly because he has the extra height and long-ass arms whereas i, tall enough as i am, still find it awkward even on a chair. He can do it with his eyes closed. My latest blowout occurred the day he had his surgery! agghh! We both tried, Graham and i, to change the tube but it just didn't seem to want to connect properly and since Dad couldn't do it, i bought a fluorescent desk lamp and made do. Last week, if you will recall, i put in a work order to get the building people to either fix it or replace the whole fixture. Over a week later they are still working on a backlog of work orders, so they say. I was down taking out some rubbish and there was the man who used to be the superintendant of my building puttering around in the garage. I asked him to help, he brought up a step ladder and ... Result!! Well it wasn't quite as easy, because though the one bulb was replaced, the reason the light wasn't working was because the other bulb was now burned out too. Ahhh well i still had a spare so both new bulbs are now brightly shining ! Yay! I will have to call the office and cancel the work order. Or should i be pissy and let them come but not have the deadbolt left unlocked lol Nahhh don't want a reputation as a difficult tennant. I'll just call them up and announce with a sniff that i got someone else to fix it since they were taking so long and btw why am i still walking on plywood in the hallway when you were in such a hurry to tear out the carpet that you had to do it loudly on Saturday and Sunday morning a couple of weeks ago?

I didn't walk to the mall as my feet are still sore from yesterday and my back is a bit strained, probably from walking and standing for so long yesterday as well. Nothing at Pennington's, just real shite leftover from the summer stock on the racks. Saw nice green jeans for fall but every last pair was for "petites", i.e. shorter people than me. Grr... Will try the West End branch through the week maybe.

Before that i went into Quiznos for a sub and was looking at my power bill. Decided to call them up and get switched over to a monthly budget billing instead of wondering how much it's going to be every 2 months after they read the electric meter. Another Result... my monthly bill will be $33 which is actually a little cheaper than i already budget for. I pay the bill i have now and after that i will start on the monthly bill. I could get it done by automatic withdrawal but i can also set it up as a monthly payment via internet banking.

So having had lunch, having sorted out my electric bill, and not having bought anything at Penningtons, i made the mistake of going to Staples. Ahhhh that's a dangerous place, that. I thought i might get some photo paper and walked out with a usb hub, a new keyboard (rar!), some pens and yes, the photo paper. the keyboard is M$ and has some programmable buttons like my last one did. My old keyboard was getting pretty sticky and it wasn't very quiet. This one is very "soft" and shhhh and also Black and Silver :) Matches the new monitor and the tower is hidden behind the door in the cabinet anyway. Hmmm mouse is still beige though. No matter. I didn't get a cordless one, i don't really mind the wired ones as i am sitting at the desk and the keyboard and mouse are on a tray and not going to go that far afield anyway. The mouse is already an optical one and (whispers) it is working fine. Things didn't work smoothly after the install though. When i rebooted, not only did the keyboard not work but neither did the mouse. I put the mouse back on the PS2 port instead of usb as is the keyboard and i rebooted a couple of times and now it's fine. Phew! So i've not only freed up a usb hub by moving the mouse to ps2 but have also got a four slot usb hub plugged into the slot where the mouse was. The front two are already in use with the webcam and i leave the usb cable for the camera hooked in all the time. Might switch the cam to the hub. Have the buttons on the keyboard programmed to my satisfaction but it doesn't seem to have improved my spelling yet ;)
