The leader of the NDP party of Canada, the New Democrats has died. Jack Layton was only 61. A few weeks ago he had a press conference where he said he was stepping down from the leadership because  cancer had recurred . Or rather, according to him, he'd beaten the last round (prostate) but a new cancer had shown up in tests. He looked dreadfully thin and frail and I really didn't think he had a lot of time left so I wasn't surprised to hear that, just 4 weeks later, he'd passed away. I think he probably knew at the time of the press conference that his time was limited. Maybe at that time they had yet to decide whether treatment would be of any use, I don't know, but I think he knew. You wouldn't know it from his attitude at the pc though and i have to give him huge respect for it. I feel quite bad about this. He was well liked and respected and he led my party of choice.
