Misheard Lyrics
Sep. 26th, 2012 06:47 amSo the musical earworm that's been sporadically invading my sanity recently is Gangham Style. It's catchy, the video is bizarre though maybe it's typical of a Japanese pop video, I don't know. Someone on YouTube posted the English lyrics, i don't have the url just at hand but it shouldn't be difficult to find. Anyway the bit he keeps repeating is listed as "Oppa Gangham Style" And through the video the "oppa" bit is repeated a lot, or shortened to "Op op op oppa gangham style" and I thought he was saying "walk" (albeit with a Japanese accent) because there is also an English phrase in the song "Pretty Lady" so why not "walk"? There's a distinctive dance move that's kind of like a crab walk with the arms crossed in front at the wrists bopping along with the dancing so I just thought that was the Gangham Style walk. :)
It's a music video, It's a dance move, it's Japanese. What do i know? Anyway I still like it and i was spending some time on the weekend looking at various homemade videos mimicing the original, my favourite being the one by the US Navy, all those nice boys in white uniforms. Nicccce! There was also a mother and son doing a variation with robot dance moves and hip hop on Ellen DeGeneres which was good as well.
